Rose watched Tauriel glare at Kili, who was screaming in pain. Legolas, who was standing at the doorway, looked at Tauriel expectanly. "Tauriel." The red-haired elf looked away from Kili and began to head towards the Elven Prince. But as she reached door, Kili moaned in pain, looking at Tauriel desperately. Legolas sighed, and strode out the door, running to catch up with the orcs. Tauriel looked at Legolas, then back to Kili. Rose put her hand on Kili's forehead. "Tauriel," Rose said. "Man ceril? An ngell nin."[What are you doing? Please.] Rose said angrily. Tauriel turned her head and began to walk out the door, and Kili watched in despair. Tauriel turned to the stairs, but she noticed Bofur running up the stairs with Athelas in his hands. The elf gasped in surprise and took the leaves from the dwarf's hands. "Athelas." She said, examining the herb. Bofur looked at Tauriel in confusion. "What are you doing..?" The elf looked down at Bofur with hope in her eyes. "I'm going to save him."

Rose looked up in shock as Tauriel quickly walked back in the house. Rose held down Kili's arm, which were trying to flail around. She walked to the sink and looked toward Rose. "Mellon nin, come help." Tauriel turned to Fili, Bofur, and Oin. "Hold him down." Rose rushed to the sink and grabbed the leaves from Tauriel. "Athelas. How..." Rose turned her head to Bofur. Rose grabbed a wooden bowl and filled it with water. "Tauriel, let me do this. My father was a healer." Rose turned to Kili, but she realized that Kili loved Tauriel, he would not want Rose to help him. The half-blood handed the bowl and herbs to Tauriel. "I give you the responsibility." Tauriel gave rose a grateful smile and walked over to Kili.

Tauriel laid the bowl of water onto the table. She examined Kili's wound. She turned her head in worry, but began to soak the Athelas in the water. Rose held down Kili's legs; she knew what was about to happen. Tauriel kneaded the herbs in her hand until it turned into a slight paste. Unsuspecting Kili looked up at the ceiling, not knowing about the pain he was about to experience. Rose gripped onto Kili's ankles as Tauriel closed her eyes and pressed the herb onto Kili's arrow wound. She began to chant in Sindarin, and Kili screamed and thrashed his limbs around. He kicked his legs, screaming in agony. Rose dodged Kili's flailing legs, one almost hitting her in the face. Sigrid jumped in, helping Rose hold down Kili's leg. "Tilda!" Sigrid called to her sister for help. As Tauriel proceeded to chant in Elvish, the other dwarves looked at the elf strangely. They have never seen this type of Elvish healing, and were confused and amazed. After a few agonizing seconds of screaming and thrashing, Kili began to relax. Tauriel kept chanting, and Rose watched Kili stare at Tauriel, his eyes glistening and full of love. Tauriel looks down at him as well, still speaking in Elvish.

Rose helped Tauriel bind Kili's leg with a cloth. "I've heard tell of the wonders of elvish medicine. That was a privilege to witness." Rose heard Oin say. Kili's eyes opened slightly, and he stares at the red-haired elf. "Tauriel." He whispered. Tauriel began to wipe her hands. "Lie still." She told Kili.  "You cannot be her." Kili said, and Tauriel looked down at him in confusion. "She is far away. Sh- She is far, far away from me, and she walks in starlight in another world." He said, still looking at the elf. Rose watched, her arms crossed. "It was just a dream." Kili said quietly. He then slowly lifted his hand and his fingers entwined with Tauriel's. Rose walked towards Fili and Oin, not wanting to bother Tauriel and Kili.  "Do you think she could have loved me?" Rose heard Kili say, and she looked to the ground. Rose regretted letting Legolas go; she should went with him. "You alright lassie?" Oin said, noticing Rose. She looked at Oin, and the Fili frowned. "You've changed, Rose. At Bag End, you were happy, innocent, and you always smiled. But now, now you barely eat, laugh, or smile. You are always angry, and you've drifted away from Thorin." Rose stared at Fili. "I'm fine. I haven't changed," She said blankly. "And Thorin and I have never been close; never."

A sudden crash from the distance stopped everyone in their tracks. Rose heard people outside scream in fear. Rose ran to the door and looked outside, towards the Lonely Mountain. Tauriel ran to Rose, fear in her eyes. "What is it?" She said. Rose stared out into the distance, and looked at Tauriel. "The dragon has awoken."
