Thranduil quickly took a step backwards, his face twisting into a vicious frown. "Y-You?!" The Elven King stared at her in horror, as if Rose was an Orc instead of a woman. "You have to nerve to come back, you are a reckless filth; changing your hair as if I were stupid enough to not notice you." He said coldly, avoiding eye contact with Rose as she stood up. "If I had known, I would have never come; I was unaware to not know that I would run into a sick man who cared about nothing but his little jewels from the mountain!" Rose shouted. Thranduil spun around, his eyes wide open. He unsheathed his sword that was attached to his belt and walked towards Rose slowly. "How dare you speak to a king like that!?" He yelled fiercely. He held up his sword, and swung it down. Rose flinched and dropped to her knees, preparing herself for the terrible pain that was about to fall upon her, but she heard the clashing of metal and felt no blade cut into her skin. Rose opened her eyes and saw Legolas, blocking his father's sword, preventing Rose from being hurt.

"You will not hurt her, father." Legolas said calmly. Thranduil stared at his son. "You do not go against me! Not only am I your father, but I am your king as well," Thranduil said cruelly. "Nín gwerianneg![You betrayed me]" He bellowed. Legolas slashed his knife, pushing Thranduil's arm away. "Father, do not waste your energy and time. I will take her back to her cell and make sure she does not escape." The Elven King glared at Rose so much, she felt that he would burn a hole through her head. "No, she needs to pay. She needs to learn her lesson. Possibly," Thranduil snickered, placing the tip of his sword onto Rose's right arm. "I could give her another scar. Then you will be matching on both arms." Rose widened her eyes in fear for a moment, but Legolas pulled her away. "Father, please. I will take her back to her cell. Enough said." Legolas held Rose's hands behind her back and led her to the cell. He opened the door and pushed Rose in. Legolas wrapped his fingers around the bars. "I will come back later," He whispered sternly. "We must talk." Rose crossed her arms and watched Legolas walk away.

Rose stuck her head between the cell bars, watching Tauriel and Kili talk. She felt ping of jealousy; she wished that Legolas would stop trying to get Tauriel and just love her. Rose lied down on the cold floor and turned her head. It felt like it was around midnight, but it could not be. She could not tell since there were no windows. Rose took off her vambrace and rolled up her sleeves, revealing the scars. She skimmed her fingernail over a cut. It began to hurt, and Rose quickly rolled down her sleeve when she saw Legolas glaring at her through the bars. "What do you want?" Rose said in an emotionless tone. Legolas reached into the cell. "Come here." Rose groaned, but walked to him. She stared at him for a moment, and then she grabbed him by his collar and pulled very hard, making Legolas hit his face against the bars. "Ow!" He rubbed his forehead, then stared at Rose. "Why did you do that?" Rose turned around and lied back down on the floor. "Because," she muttered. "You...you have never even come back to visit.  You never sent letters..." Rose closed her eyes. "Mellon nín...Goheno nín[My friend. Forgive me.]. I did not have the time." Legolas said. Rose spread her arms and legs out, and Rose began to fiddle with the string on her vambrace.

As Rose was busy doing what ever she was doing, Legolas noticed Rose's sleeve fall down. He narrowed his eyes; he thought he had seen a cut. "Rose...what is on your arm?" Rose widened her eyes. Legolas quickly put his hand through the bars and grabbed her arm. Rose tried to pull away, but Legolas had a strong grip. He rolled up her sleeve, and widened his eyes at the line of scars, cuts, and bruises. "Rose." He said, staring into her eyes. Rose pulled away her arm from his grip and rolled her sleeve up. "It is nothing! Just leave me alone. I have gone through a lot, you are acting like a child; leave!" Legolas looked at the ground, then back at Rose. "I do not understand why you are angry at me. What have I done to make you like this?" Rose furrowed her eyebrows. "Why can you not go to Tauriel and ask her? I see how you look at her...why can't I be loved." She muttered. Legolas gave her a confused look. "Is this what it is all about? Love?" Rose quickly shook her head. "No, never mind this conversation!" "But, is it because of Taur-" "NO!" Rose shouted. She ripped the necklace off her neck and threw it at Legolas. It flew past him and hit the wall. Legolas turned around and walked away. He had gone too far. He sadly looked behind him. Rose was tucked into a ball, crying softly.  He slowly picked up the necklace and looked at the pendant. She has kept this for all these years? She took care of it and cherished it. I do not understand what is wrong...Legolas tucked the necklace into one of his pockets and walked up the winding stairs, thinking of The Fall of Erebor.
