Rose stared into Thorin's eyes. She was in so much pain, but with Thorin's presence, she felt better. She struggled to her knees and laid her head on Thorin's chest lightly. "I'm sorry," Rose whispered. "I couldn't save you. I was a coward." She choked, tears welling up in her eyes. Thorin laid his hand on Rose's head. "I forgive you." He breathed. Rose closed her eyes as Thorin's warm breath blew into her hair. She felt comfort. Thorin coughed, and even that brought him pain. Rose sat up, holding Thorin's head in her hands. "Thorin? Thorin? No, please do not leave me." She sobbed. Her breathing turned into a rattling sound. Her tears dripped down, and she stared into Thorin's eyes once again. Thorin smiled, looking into Rose's teary eyes. "You are so beautiful, like a flower." Rose sniffled, confused at Thorin's sudden change of mood. "I wish to live only a few moments longer so I can get up and embrace you." He whispered. Rose began to cry from sadness, pain, and sorrow. "Say goodbye to Bilbo and the others for me," Thorin said, his voice barely audible. He looked into Rose's eyes, not even trying to look away. "My......Rose..." Rose panicked. She gripped onto Thorin's bloody leather tunic. "Thorin? No, don't you dare. No, no..." Thorin breathed his last, and then everything stopped. His eyes stayed open, as if he were staring into the sky. Thorin Oakenshield, son of Thrain, son of Thror, had breathed his final breath.

Rose looked up. "Look, the eagles....they..." Rose yelled out a pained scream. She began to sob into Thorin's chest. She cried and cried. The other dwarves slowly walked towards Rose. Dwalin grabbed Rose, dragging her away from Thorin. "No, no,no. No! NO!" Rose yelled, watching Thorin's body get distant as she was dragged away. "NO! Let me be with him!" Rose screamed at Dwalin. She kicked and flailed. "Lassie," Dwalin said in sorrow. "You will die if you stay out here any longer." Rose tried to pry herself away from Dwalin's grip, but the pain in her stomach was unbearable. She passed out, tears still rolling down her cheeks.

Rose woke up in a start, and a sharp pain pierced her stomach. She sat up in her bed and looked around. She was in a tent. Rose spun her head towards the entrance to the tent. Somebody was coming. Rose closed her eyes, feeling like a part of herself had just been ripped off. Why did Thorin die? Is Legolas dead as well? "Rose?" Legolas said, walking into the tent. "Legolas? Why are you here?" She said glumly. Legolas came over and sat down in the bed, next to Rose. "You are very lucky. Azog's blade just missed your organs. You could have been mortally wounded. The healers have given your herbs and medication; you should be able to still walk and fight." Legolas took Rose's hands and held them tight. "I am sorry about Thorin." he said sadly. He leaned over and kissed Rose's forehead lightly. "Gwaem.[Let's go]" Legolas said. He helped Rose get to her feet. Her stomach and side ached, but she was able to walk.

Rose followed Legolas through the ruins of Dale, and up to Ravenhill. "Legolas, what am I to do? I have no where to go. I have no home, and I wish to not go back to Rivendell." Legolas turned around, looking past Rose's shoulder. She turned around, and saw Thranduil, staring back at his son. Legolas walked past Rose and stood in front of the Elven King. "I...cannot go back." Legolas said to his father. he turned to Rose and motioned to her. Rose looked at Thranduil, then walked to Legolas's side. "Let's go." Legolas said softly to Rose. "Where will you go?" Thranduil said to the elves. Legolas turned and faced his father. "I do not know." he said, grabbing Rose's hand. Rose looked at Legolas, feeling her heart warm up. Did he love her like the way she loved him?

"Go north." Thranduil said, looking at Rose. "Find the Dúnedain. There's a young Ranger amongst them- you should meet him. His father, Arathorn, was a good man. His son might grow to be a great one." "What is his name?" Rose asked, staring at the Elven King. "He's known in the wild as Strider. His true name you must discover for yourselves." Thranduil said, a mysterious tone in his voice. Legolas and Rose exchanged glaces, but looked upon Thranduil. Rose nodded at Thranduil, Legolas doing the same. They began to walk away. Rose looked down to the ground and waited, as if expecting Thranduil to call them back. but she was right. "Legolas... your mother loved you...more than anyone...more than life." The Elven King said sadly. He looked at Rose in sorrow. "Legolas's mother thought of you as her own daughter. You treated her well." He said. Legolas and his father gestured a sign of goodbye. Rose felt her eyes tear up as she followed Legolas. but she turned and ran into Thranduil's arms. "Farewell." She said, closing her eyes. She pulled away, then caught up with Legolas.

As they walked away, Rose noticed a horse with a saddle but no rider walked by them. Rose widened her eyes in realization. The dwarves. She was leaving them; not even saying goodbye. "What am I doing? I must say goodbye." Rose turned to Legolas. "Alas, mellon nin[My friend]. I will miss you greatly." She said, looking down to the ground. "I might as well just go back to Rivendell and live the rest of my days there." Rose began to walk towards the horse, but Legolas grabbed her arm. "Come with me." Rose turned around and looked at him in the eyes. "What?" Legolas held Rose's hands in his. "Come with me to the North. We shall go together." Rose opened her mouth, and felt regret. She smiled at him sadly. "Then what are you waiting for? Come with me to say goodbye." She said happily.

Legolas and Rose rode through the ruins of Dale. They approached the entrance to Erebor, and Rose saw all the dwarves, in front of the collapsed stone wall. Rose held onto Legolas's side tightly as Legolas snapped the reins. "Bilbo!" Rose called out. "Dori! Nori! Ori!" She shouted, getting their attention. She jumped off of the horse. "Legolas," She said, turning to the elf. "Come!" he smiled and jumped off of the horse as well.

"Rose!" All the dwarves shouted happily in relief. Rose hugged each and every dwarf, and last was Bilbo. She stood in front of him, and Bilbo looked up nervously. "Um, you can stop by anytime for tea," he said, looking up quickly. "I-If you like, I mean. I'm not forcing you to--" Rose grabbed Bilbo's cheeks and began to kiss his cheeks. She picked him up happily and kissed his forehead. The others began to laugh as Bilbo's cheeks blushed into a light red. Rose hugged Bilbo tightly. "Thank you so much, Bilbo. I have never been so happy in years. I am glad you are all alive." She got down to her knees, and looked into Bilbo's eyes. "Take care." She said, smiling sadly. "I will visit as soon as possible, dear Bilbo." She patted his head and stood up, waving one last time to the other dwarves.

Rose got onto her horse, with Legolas doing the same. Legolas turned, looking at Rose. "Are you ready?" Rose nodded, and they bolted off. As they rode away from Dale, Rose saw Gandalf. "Mithrandir!" Rose called to the wizard. Gandalf turned and laughed happily. "Goodbye Rose!" Rose waved. "Farewell, Gandalf! We shall meet again." She yelled as they rode farther away, off into unfamiliar land. Gandalf laughed, watching Rose ride off into the distance. "We shall meet again. We shall." he said to himself.

Rose left her home and past behind, for the whole world was ahead.
