snake doesn't believe he could ever be good wolf as to reassure him
after the movie and a few months in of them being in prison

it's been a few months since they turned themselves in after returning the meteorite and were put in prison, and surprisingly things have been good for them, as good as things can get for people in prison.

but today was one of their off days, more or less one of snakes off days, he was more angry and dismissive than usual and the rest of the gang have obviously have noticed.

and they of course asked- told wolf to see what's been up with snake since he and the serpent were closer and snake was more likely to tell wolf than anyone else.

and wolf obliged wanting to know what's been eating at his friend and making his mood worse and worse.

wolf lay in his cot staring up at the dark ceiling worried out of his mind about the man in his own cot on the other side of the cell, he turned his head to look at snake who was curled in on himself facing the wall.

"snake." wolf murmured, "you up?"
he only got a grunt in response that being enough response for wolf he continued "what's up.. you've been acting off today"

"nothing is "up".. i'm fine" the reptile replied still not facing the other.

wolf sighed, "snake you clearly aren't fine everyone's noticed." he shakes his head "come on buddy you know you can talk to me"

snake turned and faced him hissing "i told you i'm fine!"

"you are not fine okay? fuck.. just tell me what's going on so i know what i can do" wolf said as he got up and made his way to the other side of the cell now sitting beside his friend, "what's wrong snake" he's looking at him directly face to face, snake frowns and shakes his head.

snake curled back into himself, "it's fine.. i'm fine it's nothing"

"snake.. look at me," wolf asked, snake didn't answer "snake look at me" his voice more stern rising slightly.

snake looks at him and immediately wants to look away not wanting to look at the other but wolfs paws were on either side of his face holding him there, wolfs eyes were filled with so much concern, and there was a pang in snakes chest at the look feeling bad now at worrying the canine so much over his own stupid problems, he never wanted to see that look on wolfs face again, especially over him.

"snake.." wolf said so softly, and there was that pang in his chest again. "snake tell me what's wrong"

"i- why do you care wolf?" here he is being dismissive again not wanting to answer the other

"you know why now just tell me what's wrong okay? and i'll stop bothering you"

snake shakes his head and sighs in defeat, knowing the canine was going to get it out of him at some point anyway, so might as well get it over with. "this place man.. this place is getting to me- like it shouldn't like i know we're getting out soon but-"

the reptile shakes his head again and breathes in a chuckle this was stupid but he continued "but i don't deserve to.. unlike you guys i shouldn't get out, i don't deserve it what have i done to prove i won't just go back to who we- i was? and that i'm a good person"

wolf frowns "snake, what? of course, you deserve to get out..just as much as the rest of us"

"no i don't, wolf, i'm not a good person and i'm incapable of changing i'm always going to be the bad guy everyone knows it and deep down," snake says as he takes his tail poking at wolfs chest for emphasis "you know it too"

wolf scoffs and shakes his head at how ridiculous snake sounds wolf knows he's changed and is a good person, he's just got to make snake know that too.

"you're fucking stupid snake"

the reptile looked at him wide-eyed "what?"

"you're stupid for thinking you're not a good person and are incapable of change and thinking that i believe all of that" wolf just smiles gently at him cupping the side of snakes face "you're a good person snake" and he full-heartedly believes that and knows it's true.

the reptile huffs a laugh taking his tail and patting the wolfs paw that was holding his face "i love it when you lie to me wolfie, it kind of makes me believe you're right"

"it's not a lie, i wouldn't lie to you not about this at least, you're a good person and you changed i know this because if you weren't a good person snake and were still the same old mean bad guy you wouldn't have helped us in the end but you did, and no matter all the terrible things we did in the past what we- you did to help just proves you can change and be good and proves you deserve a second chance"

snake just stares at him for a moment before bringing the canine into a hug, wolf was taken aback by the reptiles surprise affection but hugs him back.

snake sighed still hugging wolf, "you really think i'm a good person huh?"

"of course i do snake."

"i believe you."

wolf breaks the hug so he can look at snake smiling "good."

snake rolls his eyes, "you happy now?"

"yeah i am" wolf grins, "but seriously next time there's something wrong or you're feeling this way you'll tell me right?"

"yeah.. i'll tell you" of course he's going to tell wolf, he always ends up doing so, and wolf always knows how to reassure him letting him know that his bad thoughts are just that thoughts and aren't him "now go back over to your bed before a guard comes by"

"right okay," wolf says listening as he makes his way back over to his side of the cell laying back down on his own cot, snake lays down to and stares at the ceiling.

"wolf?" snake says to the dark

"yeah?"

"thank you.."

wolf hums a reply "course, i'll do it a million more times, cause i love and care about you"

"you love me?" snake asked knowing the answer but still wanting to hear it.

"yeah," wolf yawns "love you a lot"

"i love you too, buddy"

"mh know", snake could hear the stupid smile in the canines tired voice, and before long heard the soft snores of the other.

"goodnight wolf," snake says to the dark.
