Hello my lovelies, thanks for all the support, votes and comments. Requests are still closed at the moment, I feel as though I am getting the same plot lines over and over again which is beginning to be draining and difficult to change to make different for people's requests. At the moment, I am focussing on my own ideas and writing them out. Thanks again, you guys help make this all worth sharing my stories!
Fili watched as you stood at the edge of camp with his younger brother Kili, the pair of you discussing your bows in front of you. The pair of you were occasionally turning over in your hands and holding them up pulling the string back almost as if you were fighting an invisible enemy. You both had your backs to the camp, now you turned halfway facing each other. Fili watched as his brother gave his usual impish grin at you, you gave your usual troublemaker one back. He felt a surge of emotion in his stomach, but wasn't quite sure what it was. Still watching, he saw one of your locks of hair unbound dance in the wind and how it brushed against your cheeks. It was almost long enough to brush at his brother's shoulder. Fili's fingers twitched as he watched it twist in winds; he wanted to brush it back behind your ear. But the feeling in gut almost convinced him he wanted more. That he wanted to brush his fingers in your hair, twist it into a braid before securing it at the end with a courting bead. His courting bead.
After a moment, you both turned back to the company and moved to sit down by the fireside, Kili took his place beside his brother and you sat beside Biblo. Biblo turned to you engaging you at once in discussion, the pair of you were sharing Dwarfish and Hobbit customs. Fili took his eyes off you to look at the stew that he had been handed for his meal. He doubted it could really be called stew, but he was not going to complain, the last time someone had complained Thorin had made them cook the meals for the company for three nights. Fili watched you joked around with Bilbo and other members of the company. Thorin looked around at everyone, "Bofur, you're on first watch. Fili, you're on second and Y/N will take third." Everyone nodded, Bofur set up the spot for the watch. While you and Fili chose your own spots, after a short while there was nothing but the sounds of the company's breathing.
Bofur's watch went without incident, he shook Fili awake gently before collapsing onto his bedroll. Fili looked over at you. You were still sleeping, curled under your furs with a hand tucked under your chin. He stretched as adjusted his position while keeping watch. As he kept watch, he sneaked glances at your sleeping figure and the way you rolled around in the night. He stroked his beard as he thought, the beads clicking softly together as he did so. He ran his finger over the beads and the end of his braid, he was curious as to how it would look in your hair and if it was as soft as it looked. It was one of those night watches where nothing happened and soon enough he fed the fire before standing to move over to where you had once again rolled off your bedroll. The company was used to you rolling off your bedroll in the night, Thorin would make sure that your sleeping spot was nowhere near any cliffs to stop you falling down them.
He shook you awake, and hid his smile in his beard as you groaned finding twigs and leaves in your hair. You fumbled in your pack for your comb to work out the knots while you were on watch. Fili helped pull you to your feet. You stretched, "thanks." He nodded, and you made your way over to the spot, he had just left. Fili lay on his bedroll, angling himself so that he would watch you as you began pulling the leaves and twigs out. He watched as the moonlight filtered through the clouds and reflected through your hair and across your skin. It seemed to form almost a halo around you, he watched as you tugged at your hair and a couple of curses that slipped out. Leaning up onto his elbows, he watched as you struggled with a particular strand. He got to his feet, and moved over to you. "Need some help?" You looked up at him, he motioned to your hair, "you look like you need some help?" You smiled at him, "what do you mean I am building a nest for the birds." He chuckled softly, before you dropped your hands to your lap. "Please." He motioned for the comb, you handed to him and turned around to face out again to keep watch. Fili began to carefully pull the twigs and leaves from your hair, apologising each time you jerked or hissed despite you waving it away each time. Once he had pulled out all the twigs, he began to slowly comb it and work out all the snarls that had been created by your adventure into sleep. He stopped combing your hair and ran his fingers through it instead, occasionally scratching his nails against your scalp. The feeling of his fingers in your hair and his nails scratching at your scalp caused your eyes to slip shut. The temptation to weave a courting braid into your hair was almost overwhelming. "Jealous of my locks, Fili?" He chuckled softly, "very." He let your hair fall through his fingers before sitting down beside you. You nudged him with your shoulder, "shouldn't you be sleeping?" Fili turned to look at you, the feeling of wanting to braid a courting bead into your hair was causing his fingers to twitch. "Fili?" You spared him a glance still wanting to keep an eye out for anything in the night.
He swallowed the lump that was beginning to appear in his throat. As he watched you in the firelight, a gust of wind lifted your hair teasing the free and wild locks. "Y/N." He said your name as if it was a question and the answer wrapped in one. "Fili." You almost sighed his name as if it was a prayer. "I do not want to compete with my brother for your affections, nor do I want to change your for him if that is where they lay. However I would never forgive myself if I did not share my affections with you before we cross Smaug. If you do not return my affections or yours lay elsewhere, please do not hesitate to say and I will stop in my pursuit. I do not know when this started nor do I wish for it to end, but I would like court you. I would like to gift you my courting bead to show the affections and admiration I have for you. Y/N, would you allow me to weave a courting braid in your hair?" He looked you from the corner of his eyes.
You swallowed the lump in your own throat, Fili's words hitting you in your chest. Tears welled in your eyes, you kept your eyes fixed on some point faraway from camp. "Your brother does not hold my affections." There was a pause as hope bloomed in Fili's chest and as you thought upon your next words. "He was attempting to talk what he called sense into me. Seems he was right." Fili stilled beside you, "he was trying to convince me that you held affection for me." Fili had never been more grateful for his younger brother in all his years. You turned to catch Fili's eyeline, "you may weave a courting braid in my hair and secure it with your bead, if I may do the same for you." Here you held a silver bead with blue-white gems to the firelight where it glittered and seemed to Fili to be fit for a Crown Prince of Erebor.
He still thought so when he saw it swinging at the end of his courting braid the next day.
