Kili filled both his brother and uncle in on what had occurred, how he and Tauriel had seen you fall down the small set of stairs. He mentioned your wound, he regretted it when his brother's footsteps faltered. Fili's steps quickened as Kili led them to the hidden chamber. Dwalin had raised his weapon when he heard the footsteps approach, he lowered it when he saw it was them. He stepped aside and knocked on the door. Tauriel opened the door, the three of them were ushered in and Dwalin shut the door. Fili stopped at the sight of you on the bed, the blood that had dripped down onto your skirts, the ripped bodice from your saviours and the blade. His eyes travelled up to your face, the pale skin and gaunt appearance of your cheeks. He lifted his gaze to his mother's bloodstained hands, Tauriel had the same stains on her hands and ripped skirts. Kili stepped further into the room and used a spare rag to wipe away the blood on Tauriel's hands.

Thorin spotted the dagger in Tauriel's belt, "where did you get that?" Tauriel looked down and removed the dagger from her belt holding it hilt out. Thorin took it as Tauriel explained. "I found it beside her." Turning to face Fili, he held the dagger to his nephew. "She had your dagger?" Fili took it and his thumb hovered over the length of blood on the blade. From the length of blood staining the metal he knew that it had been his blade that had been used against you. He took in a shuddering breath, his chest felt as though it was constricting. This was supposed to be your wedding day, and this was not how he wanted your wedding night to go. "I gave it to her the night before we were to be wed, she did not feel safe without one. As I could not be with her, I thought at least I could give her something so she could protect herself." Thorin, Kili, and Tauriel looked down, they too still carried small weapons, the not-so-distant memories of orcs and Smaug still fresh. "She nicked them." Tauriel's spoke again, when four sets of eyes were on her. "He left a smear of blood on the wall." She gestured to her shoulder indicating where you had stuck him. Fili placed the dagger on top of the chest of drawers that had been left behind before moving forwards to brush the hair away from your forehead. He leaned towards you to brush his lips against the skin there, his beads and hair tickling your face. "That's my wife." The whispered words wisped against your skin.

Thorin moved over to his sister, taking some spare rags and followed his nephew's motions cleaning the blood off her hands. Dis tried to shake his hands off her, but Thorin held them fast. "Thank you." Dis sniffed, and Thorin tossed the now bloodied rag onto a table. Thorin turned to face his nephew's, one who was checking on his elvish partner and the other carefully brushing his thumb along his unconscious bride's forehead. "I want her always protected. A guard outside the door and someone inside." Dis removed her hands from her brother's grasp, "if you think I am going to leave my daughter alone with some guard who barely knows how to use a pike then you are mistaken." Thorin's shoulders dropped, as he let the air fall from his lungs. "Sister, I meant only..." Dis raised her eyebrows at her brother, "they can guard the outside." Fili looked up at his mother and uncle, his voice deepened as his shoulders tightened with tension. Each word was enunciated and rumbled through his chest. "I am not leaving her." Kili looked to his brother, "I will stay." Tauriel looked to Fili, "I will stay too, if you need me." Fili shook his head, "Thank you Tauriel, I would rather just myself and brother." Tauriel nodded, "no need to apologise, I will assist with guarding the door." She left, with a kiss from Kili and promising to return with his and Fili's weapons.

Still a little shaky after the adrenaline that had rushed through his veins was slowly leaving his system. He stuffed his shaky hands into his pockets, to hide his nerves. There he felt the sharp corner of paper. He pulled out the crumpled note and smoothed it out. His movements Thorin's eye and he moved away from his sister towards his nephew. He stepped around Fili to stand by Kili who was staring wide eyed at the note in his hands. Thorin took the note from Kili and read the words that had caused all of this. It was the price on his head, you had almost given your life for his. Guilt nagged at him, twisted at his insides as he tried to take a calming breath. He couldn't look at Fili or his sister before he turned and stormed out of the room.
