Leonard 'Bones' McCoy x Male!Reader

Dashing to from one corner of the room to the other, you were getting everything ready for Bones' birthday which was going to happen in the next few hours. It was a surprise party which meant, of course, that the entire Enterprise knew, regardless of pressuring Nyota, Sulu, Chekov, Scotty, and Spock to keep the whole affair quiet. For the last few days, you had had your hands full of making sure the party would run smoothly. Kirk was proving difficult with keeping the surprise party a secret. Compounding the stress of the party planning was everything going on with the ship, which mainly involved Kirk almost getting the ship blown up at least twice as well as Sulu and Nyota were making sure that Kirk didn't spill the beans about the party. Sulu would also on occasion have to step on Chekov's foot, when he almost in a moment of enthusiasm told Bones about the party. Spock was being his usual self, he didn't quite understand the implications of it being a surprise but was helping keep the secret, nonetheless. Of course, there was also added stress to getting Bones' the perfect gift, but you were sure that you had pretty much succeeded in that regard.

Everyone could tell that Bones was getting suspicious, people would stop talking when he arrived in a room or at a table. They would jump to random topics when he asked what they were talking about, usually something that Kirk had done, blown up something, almost started a war with three different planets, all in the last week.

Running your fingers through your short hairstyle, you sighed pulling on the strands as you and Nyota arranged the room for Bones' party. "Okay, we have everything set up, now all we need is for people to keep the secret for the rest of the day, and we need Leo to come here rather than stay at the med bay all night." Nyota looked over at you, amusement lacing her features. You looked over at her, "What?" You shrugged at her. She smiled at you, "Nothing, it's just, you called him 'Leo', everyone just calls him, 'Bones'." You smiled at her impishly. Stepping down off the ladder you were using to hang some balloons, you dusted your hands on the trousers of your uniform. "How's his present coming?" She asked, a knowing smile crossing her face. "Almost here." You answered cryptically, with a coy grin as Sulu walked in, Nyota was the only one who knew of your plans. You had both tricked Kirk into signing the needed documentation in allowing the gift, but you had a feeling he knew anyway.

The party came about quickly with Kirk leading the confused Bones to have a drink in the 'deserted' bar area. The doors slid open and Bones walked in as Kirk turned the lights on. "SURPIRSE!" The word bounced around the room, shocking Bones and Kirk with the fervour of its shout. Bones saw the strung up banner, proclaiming 'Happy Birthday, Bones'. He locked eyes with you and sighed lightly, a grin tugging at the corners of his mouth. You raised your drink in his direction, smirking at him. After disentangling himself from members of the crew who patted him on the back, he made his way to you, taking the offered whiskey. "How did you get Kirk to approve of this?" He asked, you shrugged noncommittedly. "I had him at 'want to scare Bones'?' didn't need to say much after that." Bones gave you a disbelieving look, you smirked "Okay so I had also say 'open bar'." You shrugged, sipping at your martini.

Bones leaned towards you, "I've heard that you've gotten me a gift." You nodded in confirmation, he grinned, "So, what is this supposedly wonderful present you've got me?" Leaning towards Bones, you flickered your gaze to Nyota who held up five fingers. "You're just gonna have to wait and see." You teased, your breath ghosting over his lips. "Can't I have it now?" He leaned into kiss you, you moved slightly and kissed his cheek. Bones pouted slightly, the whiskey stained his breath slightly, just enough to be noticeable. "Not what I meant. Are you sure I can't have it now?" His voice turned husky as he teased you sending shivers down your spine. You flickered your gaze over to Nyota who was leading, Joanna, Bones' daughter and his birthday present. You smiled impishly, "I don't know if calling your present an it is very nice nor was calling your gift 'supposedly wonderful' your gift is wonderful." Bones drew back and gave you a confused look. Giving a pointed look over his shoulder, he turned and stilled when he saw his daughter. "Daddy!" She shrieked in delight, her voice easily heard over the music. She raced towards him, and leaped into his arms. Bones' arms caught her automatically, holding her tightly to him as the party continued around them. Bones kissed the top of her head several times, tears welling in his eyes. You stepped towards them as Joanna leaned back in her father's arms. "So do you like your present?" You asked teasingly, sharing a wink with Joanna, "Best damn present, I ever received." Smiling you leaned your head on his shoulder, "Thank you, Y/N." He leaned in and kissed your forehead before you raised your head and caught his lips with your own.
