You dashed into the ED, sandy hair flying behind you. Slipping past the Halstead brothers, "hey Red, Jay." Will nodded at you, "Spitfire." Jay raised his eyebrow as his brother trailed off his sentence, and watched you duck into the doctor's lounge emerging moments later with your hair tied back. Will looked back at his brother, "what?" Jay smirked "Red? Spitfire?" Will shook his head, "that's not...we're not dating. We're just friends." Jay simply grinned at his brother, "right, right. That's why you gave her a cute nickname." Jay slapped his brother on his shoulder as he left chuckling. Will shook his head, muttering under his breath, about how he didn't have a crush on you. You bounded up to him. "Hey Red." Will grinned, "Spitfire."
Maggie waved files in your faces, "Doctors. Patient files." You took the one she had waved in your face. "Thanks Maggie." Will took his own, "Treatment three, Spitfire." You shrugged one shoulder, "Treatment two, Red." You headed off, sandy ponytail swinging behind you. Will watched you leave. Maggie raised her eyebrow at Will, before prompting him. "You have a patient." Will waved the file at her, heading off in the direction of his patient.
The day in the ED was rushed, too many patients coupled with not enough time meant you barely had time to eat your lunch. You had gone to Molly's to meet up with your brother. After you had arrived you sat down with your brother Matt Casey at Molly's you had practically inhaled the food that Hermann had sat down on the table in front of you. "You should really breath, when you eat." You looked guiltily up at your brother, "sorry, didn't get lunch." Matt shrugged and waved down Stella for another lot of fries. Jay slid into a seat opposite Matt, "hey Matt, Y/N. Mind if I join you guys?" You shook your head; Matt also voiced his assent. Jay stole a couple of Matt's fries as Will walked in. "Will!" Jay called his brother over. You hoped the low light of Molly's would hide the light pink flushing your cheeks but given by the nudge you received from your older brother that had not been the case. "Hey Spitfire." You smirked back at the red-haired Halstead now sitting across from you. "Hey Red." Jay looked as confused as your brother. "What's with the nicknames?" Matt asked. "Will's got red hair." You told them as if it was an obvious answer that they should have seen it coming. Jay smirked into his beer, "yeah should have seen that." Matt with his own drink messing with his senses slightly quipped, "well you are a detective and his brother, kinda shocked that you didn't pick up on that." You snorted at your brother's attempt of humour.
Jay looked at his brother and pointed at you with his beer. "Why call her Spitfire though?" Matt coughed as his swig of beer went down the wrong way as your nickname clicked in his head. Will smirked at you, "she gave a drunken rant on the subject and how they were how did you put it...'the bestest planes ever.' Interesting rant, though." You gave Will an annoyed looked over the table while elbowing your laughing brother and aiming a weak kick at a sniggering Jay; muttering under your breath about Will doing all your paperwork.
The next day as you headed into work, you spotted Will arriving at the same time. "Hey Red." Will grinned, "hey Spitfire." You both headed into the ED bickering as you went, it turned into a light flirting tone as Maggie and April raised their heads when you entered watching as Will held open the door to the doctor's lounge his gaze softening as you walked past. You both left the doctor's lounge still flirting but disguising it as your usual bickering. Maggie handed you a patient file, "treatment two, Red." You waved the file at him as he received his own, "treatment three, Spitfire." You headed off disappearing behind the curtains. Maggie looked at Will, "why do you tell each other your treatment rooms?" Will smirked, "to one up each other." Maggie looked unimpressed, so he answered honestly, "in case we need a consult." Maggie raised her eyebrows, "right, consult." Will rolled his eyes and was about to head off to his patient when there was the sound of raised voices. He paused and turned slightly to face Maggie, who asked if she should get security. Will nodded and began to head over to the treatment room.
All of a sudden, someone was thrown out of the open door, they hit the nurses station falling to the ground. Security ran over and detained the patient and their friend while Will dropped to his knees to help his fallen colleague. It was you. "Hey Spitfire? Y/N? Can you hear me?" Will rolled you carefully onto your back, "get me a gurney, Maggie call her brother." You tired to push Will away, "Spitfire, let me help you okay?" You gave a weak nod, He lifted you to the gurney that had been brought in. "Get her a CT scan and send neuro to her room. Get me when she's had her scan." Will passed you off to a nurse and turned to see the lingering effects of the chaos; the patients lingering in their doorways, nosy people moved from the waiting room to the doors of the ED, the doctors and nurses paused horrified for their co-worker. Maggie lowered the phone from her ear, "Matt's on his way." Will nodded but didn't move. "Go make sure Y/N's okay, I'll get another doctor to cover her shift. Swap out when Matt gets here, if you can." Will nodded dropping the file with Maggie before heading off.
Will lingered while you were assessed and set up in your room by the nurses and the neurologist. When his name was called Will entered your darkened room, you were pale faced with your sandy hair falling onto your shoulders. You gave him a small smile, "hey Red." You sounded tired and unlike yourself. "Spitfire." He paused at the foot of your bed and took out your chart. He made a face when he learned of your injures. "How are you doing?" You shrugged, "fine, head hurts but I'm alright." Will moved to sit on the side you're your bed. "You scared me, Spitfire." You gave him a soft smile and took his hand that rested on his knee. "I guessed that when you called me by my name for the first time in a while." Will smiled as did you. You squeezed his hand, "thanks Will." He shrugged, "well my days would be awfully quiet with you bickering with me, Spitfire." You grinned and your eyes flicked over to the doorway where your brother was standing still dressed for his shift at the firehouse. Will squeezed your hand before getting up to head back to the ED, he passed Casey who clasped his hand and shook it. "Thanks man." Will shrugged, "just doing my job." As Will left he could have sworn he head Casey say to you, "just friends huh?"
