It was a bad idea and you knew it, saying that you would help on this mission. No...no... it isn't a mission; it is a suicide mission. This mission will either be the death of you or the death of your career. Tightening the straps on your bag, then on Ace's vest, you take a small comfort in that you if it is the death of either you or your career then at least you will died for something good, something you believed in. You double checked that Ace's vest was secure, he didn't usually wear one, but you wanted him protected at least a little. Heading towards the plane on the tarmac, you encountered your older brother by two years, his partner Sam, Deeks, and Kensi. "I thought you weren't on this mission?" Callen asked, his blue eyes narrowing taking in the sight of you in your tactical gear and the German Shephard by your side in his own tactical gear. "Hetty added me last minute. Thinks it would be a good idea if Ace came too, considering he used to be a bomb sniffing dog." Callen nodded, not entirely happy that you were joining them. You jumped in the plane; the others followed Ace who followed you.

The whole flight there was tense, Ace could sense something was up and lay quietly in his spot. It had only been around forty minutes since you had left with the team, when the Under Secretary of Defence had found out the team's flight from the country. It was almost as if you could feel his fury following you. The flight landed and everyone took a deep breath, letting the fury of the Under Secretary roll off your shoulders like water of a duck's back, the feeling faded away as you all focussed on the mission ahead of you.

Nell, Eric, Granger and Hetty were back at Ops running both distractions for the Under Secretary and trying to find Ahmed Han Asakeem you were chasing in Syria. Ace hadn't alerted to any bombs or any other dangers he had once been trained for. As you regrouped, discussing possible routes and any help Ahmed Han Asakeem had in the area, a call from Ops came through. Hetty warned you all to be careful before she imparted the information of where Ahmed Han Asakeem was, she also informed you were the helicopter would be waiting for you all. Hetty signed off by telling all not to miss it.

The sand swirled around you as the helicopter landed, Ace hopped in first and made sure he wasn't in anyone's way. Deeks was next, followed by Kensi, Ahmed Han Asakeem was shoved in by Sam who followed him in, then you finally your brother entered. Kensi groaned when Deeks began speaking about how sore his feet were. You were sitting by Ace and Kensi looked over at the pair of you. "Want to swap?" You grinned, "what swap Ace with Deeks?" You asked disbelievingly. Her dark eyes pleaded with you, "sure, why not?" Carefully getting up, you swapped with Kensi. After you sat down, Deeks pulled off one of his shoes, and groaned. "The dogs are barking." He dropped his shoe on the ground and his foot. You all began to mock and laugh at Deeks. The atmosphere was light-hearted despite the mess of the Under Secretary who was waiting for you back at Ops. As Deeks was going over everyone's attitudes and how Sam was much bigger than him. When the helicopter shuddered and jerked which was coupled with a deafening bang and a flash of sparks. Sam shouted out for everyone to brace themselves. The helicopter spun out, the pilot desperately trying keep it airborne while you all tried to find a position that wouldn't result in any injures. The helicopter slammed into the ground and everyone's vision went black.

You woke up with a heavy weight crushing you, you thought at first it was Ace laying on top of you like he did most mornings. Unfortunately, when you woke up a little more you realized that you were pinned underneath the remains of the helicopter. You shouted out, causing Sam and Kensi to find you. Deeks was searching the rubble while Callen had gone off in search of Ahmed Han Asakeem who had run off. Sam ducked down and saw you pinned, "hey kid." You gave him a weak smile, blood drying in the corner of your mouth. "Is Ace okay? And Callen? Everyone else?" He nodded, "Yeah, kid we're all okay, Deeks can't find his shoe though. I'm going to check your pulse alright?" You gave a weak nod, and Sam's fingers felt along your neck to find the terrified thudding of your pulse. Sam gave you a careful smile. He slid back out and began to talk to the others about your condition. Callen came back and looked around for you. Callen informed Sam about the approaching threat. Sam in turn informed your older brother that you were pinned and would need medical assistance.

As the team discussed quickly what to do, you lost consciousness. The decision was made then. It took what felt like days to you, in actuality long to carefully helicopter was pulled off Deeks pulled you away from the rubble. Callen was trying to hide his terror for you as Deeks and Sam used some of their medical knowledge to save you. Callen stood guard, "I'll stay with my sister, you three take Ace and Ahmed Han Asakeem somewhere high. No sense in all of us dying." Sam shook his head. "We came here together, we leave together. Callen and Sam realised that they could use Ahmed Han Asakeem as a bargaining chip but after checking the section he had been left in realised that Ahmed Han Asakeem had gotten away. Callen looked back at you, he kissed your forehead before he left to chase down Ahmed Han Asakeem with Sam promising to care for you. He came back with Ahmed Han Asakeem as you all were heading for higher ground. Ace was following loyally beside you.

Back in LA, Hetty knew something was up, Nell and Eric wasted no time in offering their help. Granger also loaned his assistance. Kensi knew that Hetty was on the team's side when the drone appeared. Callen who had realised this as well, yelled at Deeks and Kensi to get you somewhere safer after the first missile hit the ground. Sam stayed behind with Callen. The second missile hit the ground near the men shouting at you. Kensi tried not think the worst when Callen and Sam didn't immediately appear, they showed up out of the smoke and Kensi thought back to Eric and Nell who were risking their careers to help you all and how activating the missiles must have affected them.

On the ship, the personal gave Ace strange looks but said nothing. The doctor appeared, he sighed when he saw the concerned looks on the team's faces. He gave a run down of your injures and Callen's heart nearly stopped when he heard the word, 'coma'. The full impact was now hitting him, the adrenaline was no longer as strong as it once was. Ace leaned Callen's leg, giving something warm and heavy to ground himself. A group of medics walked past, carrying you on backboard. He asked if he was able to go with you, but he was told he couldn't. Ace whined but didn't move as you were carried past him. Callen watched as you were taken to the medical evac, taking some comfort in the fact you would be in the care of medical professionals during the whole flight. Ahmed Han Askeem was escorted past the team and they watched him, each fighting the urge to let their anger rain free, Ace raised his hackled and bare his teeth but didn't move.

It took longer for Callen to get back to the states. The doctors began to explain your condition to him before showing him your room. Callen stood in the doorway, relief that you were alive flooding his senses, there were lingering emotions of fear for you as well as others he couldn't quite place. He sat in the chair by your bedside. Callen was glad that Sam had made him shower and change first before coming here. Ace was at home with Kensi and Deeks, Kensi was feeling guilty about switching places with you, so she had offered to take Ace in while you were in hospital. She knew it wasn't her fault, but she still felt guilty for the switch, she also knew that Callen didn't blame her, and you wouldn't either. Callen carefully took your hand, he promised himself and you that he would wait here until you woke up.
