Nagkulong lang ako sa kwarto. Guilt was eating me at dahil yun sa mga kabastusang sinabi ko sa parents ko kagabi. But I didn't want to say sorry. May kasalanan din sila.
Mom told me to pack my things. Mamayang gabi, susunduin daw ako ni Alex and he is going to join us to dinner mamaya. I knew they wouldn't let me stay here alone for a month at alam kong hindi sila papayag ng walang away at gulo.
Pagod nako sa kakaaway. Hindi ko mapigilan sarili kong magalit sa kanila. And I don't want guilt to eat me afterwards. It was killing me!!
I finished packing at 7. Naligo nako tapos inayusan sarili ko. 8 ang scheduled dinner namin ngayon at ayokong magmukhang tanga.
A knock on my door snapped me out of my trance. I stood up and opened the door to see Mom. She smiled awkwardly and fiddled with her fingers nervously.
"Dinner's ready."
Nagnod nalang ako. She opened her mouth to say something but no words came out so she closed her mouth and walked away as I followed her downstairs.
Dumiretso ako sa dining table at umupo. Si Papa, dumating with his black suit. Galing sa trabaho. Umupo siya si Mama sa tapat ko habang si Papa nasa Father's chair throne. Alam niyo naman siguro yun.
Awkward silence filled the air. Buti nalang at nagring yung doorbell namin. Agad akong tumayo sa upuan. I cleared my throat and walked to the door. Wala akong pakialam kung si Alex yung nasa labas. I was stuck in an awkward position. Who would want that?
Huminga ako ng malalim bago ko binuksan yung pinto. Expectedly, he's there. He gave me a small smile and I found myself smiling back but I replaced it with a tight-lipped smile.
I turned my back on him and spoke. "Umm. Come in."
He sighed. "Hold my hand Eira. Come on."
May babae siyang kasama? Kumirot yung dibdib ko. Di ko alam kung bakit ganun. My frown deepened and I hesitantly turned around to look at the girl.
My sour mood vanished and I felt relieved. Lumipad sa labas ng bintana lahat ng negative thoughts ko. May kasama siyang cute na batang babae with the cutest curly hair and smile.
"Uhh. Hi." She chirped.
Lumuhod ako para magka-height na kami. "Hello Eira. Ilang taon ka na?" I grinned.
Hinawakan niya yung kamay ni Alex at tinignan siya tapos binaling niya ang atensyon niya sakin. "I-I'm shix."
Tumawa ako sa cuteness niya. "You're Ate Jana, right?"
Jana?
Tinignan ko si Alex and he scratched his nose. Mannerism niya at lagi niyang ginagawa yun pagnahihiya siya or pagnininerbyos siya. He cleared his throat and spoke.
"Umm. Eira, you're hungry na diba? Lets eat." Yaya niya.
"Okay. Gusto kong katabi si Ate Jana."
