Chapter 33: Almost is Never Enough

"Nakausap ko si Alex kahapon. I know he loves you Allie. All we need is to get him to listen." Sabi ni Drew.

Tinutupad niya talaga yung mga pangako niya. Pumasok si Alex noong Monday pero iniiwasan niya ko.

And he got angry when he saw that Drew and I are getting closer. I think that he's thinking we're getting together.

But he does not get the point!

One time nung Wednesday. I confronted him. But he just shut me off.

Yes, it was painful. But I'm not giving up. Now that I'm more determined and sure that he's the one I want and love.

Balak ko siyang kausapin pagkatapos ng klase. And when that time came, I started with my plan.

Czes called me. "Czes? Nasaan na siya?"

"Wait lang. Di pa siya lumalabas sa room."

Naiinip nako. I couldn't wait. Ayoko mag expect pero sana magkaayos na kami. And everything will be back the way it used to be.

Ako na uli si Allie. Magkaibigan na kami ni Drew. Nandyan si Czes. Gagraduate na kami in a month at magiging okay na ang lahat.

Maliban sa magulang ko I think.

But I have my goals planned out. I'm getting excited.

"Ayan na lalabas na siya. Call you later!" Binaba na niya.

Nasa side ko na pala si Drew nang di napapansin. "Ready?" Tanong niya.

"Nervous." I exhaled loudly.

He chuckled. "This better turn out well."

I smiled. Nasa laboratory room kami. Wala ng tao. And we will explain everything to Alex.

Alam kong maiintindihan niya ko. He'll realize na lagi ko siyang iniintindi at pinaniniwalaan and he better do the same.

"Hey don't be nervous. Andito lang ako."

Natagalan si Alex kaya masninerbiyos ako. Drew made jokes and some were hilarious I couldn't help but laugh.

"Then there's this time sa Drive Thru ng Starbucks. I thought it was just 120 but it was 150. Kulang nadala ko kaya pinaharurot ko yung motor ko paalis sa starbucks with the cup ready and is still in the lady's hands."

Sobra yung tawa ko, di nako makahinga. Ewan ko. But I found him hilarious. Especially his expressions.

But then he frowned deeply. Pero masnatawa lang ako sa kanya. Ano bang problema nito?

But then it wasn't. I looked at my back and there standing was Alex. I completely forgot about him.

I stared at him like a fish. His fists were clenched at his sides he stormed out of the room.

No no no no no.

"WAIT! ALEX!"

Tumakbo ako at hinabol siya. Di pwede to.

Narinig ko namang sumunod si Drew. Naabutan ko siya at hinawakan ang kamay niya.

"Alex." Hiningal kong tawag..

"ALEX!" I tried again.

Finally, he turned back. He glared at me. "May gusto lang kami sabihin. Makinig ka please."

"Na ano? Na you'll call it off with me and be with him?" He coldly said.

"Alex listen first." Drew said.

His gaze was deadly. It could've killed Drew. "Wag kang mangialam dito."

And he shut up. I took my time.

"Alex. Hindi mo kasi naiintindihan. Ikaw ang mahal ko. Nandito kami para ipaliwanag kung ano talaga ang nangyari."

"MAHAL?" He smirked.

"Wait, ano ba ang depinisyon ng mahal sa vocabulary mo?" He asked sarcastically.

"Sasabihing mahal tas di ipaparamdam? Sa salita ka lang magaling."

Tagos.

I almost cried. But I kept firm. "Totoo yun, Alex. Maniwala ka."

"It didn't look like it. You were just laughing hysterically a minute ago. Halatang di mo ako kailangan Allison." He spoke bitterly and pushed my hand away.

"You're better off without me."

"Alex please wag kang ganyan. Intindihin mo ako. Please. Mahal kita." I touched his cheek.

Di niya tinanggal yung kamay ko. "Really? Prove it."

I stared at him surprised. "H-how?"

"Pumili ka sa aming dalawa. Siya o ako." My hand in his cheek fell at my side.

I looked at him in confusion. Pinapapili niya ko. That was selfish of him! Ito na ko. Nagcoconfess sa kanya at sinasabing mahal siya. Humihingi na ng tawad at nageexplain.

He is being selfish.

Napakawrong timing. Ngayong magkaibigan na kami ni Drew. Madami na siyang nagawang mabuti sa akin despite all his mistakes. Naitama naman niya yung mga yoon.

He is special to me.

At kapatid niya si Drew. Hindi dapat siya nagkakaganito. Pero I love Alex. I know I want him pero tama ba kung pipili ako? Is he worth choosing over a friend?

I looked at Drew. He just nodded. My tears couldn't help from falling.

"Wag mo nako pahirapan." I begged.

"Then you made your choice." Alex nodded and turned back.

"Wait! Give me atleast time to think about this."

"Tomorrow then." He whispered I almost didn't catch it.

When he got out. I fell to my knees. Drew hugged me as I cried.

I thought....

I was almost there.

But then almost is never enough.
