Chapter 24 - 100 day Anniversary

Andre's POV
It's been a few days since I resumed work. Reyna was still on leave, so she was mostly home alone. I made sure to spend my evenings and weekends together.

For the first time, I have to leave her all alone for three days, to go on a business trip.

I consoled myself by saying- I could call her whenever I missed her. A day and a half had gone by and I missed her already. I called her and she picked up after the second ring.

"Hello," I said
"I miss you," she said in a very low tone.
"Are you alright? You don't sound okay"
"It's nothing. I miss you" she said sobbing.
"I miss you too. Don't cry" I said.

She just sobbed

"Are you really alright? You keep sobbing" I asked worriedly.
"It's just so frustrating. It won't stop. I can't control it" she said.
"Okay, everything is gonna be fine. I'll be back tomorrow. In the meantime think about how we'll spend our 100th-day Anniversary" I said
"It's the day after tomorrow," she said.
"Yes, don't cry. I'm gonna hang up"
I hung up after hearing her hum in response.

Finally, I can see Reyna. I walked into the house without making any noise. I found her smiling in the dimly lit kitchen. She was packaging muffins into a box.

My phone vibrated in my pocket and it was Reyna. I ignored it. I wanted to surprise her.

I walked through the darkness and stood behind her. Bad choice

"I'm behind you," I said.
She turned and started crying,
"Please don't hurt me. If it's money.."

"It's me," I said and she hugged me while crying.
"I thought something bad was gonna happen to me while you were away. Don't scare me like that"

"I'm so sorry, my crybaby. But I'm here now. I missed you so much"
"I missed you more," she said wiping her tears.

"I've got a surprise for you," she said
"And what's that?"
"It's a surprise. Go freshen up and get dressed first"
"Okay"

"Let's go," she said as soon as she saw me.
"Where are we going?" I asked while she was driving,
"You ask way too many questions. It's a surprise"
"Okay, I'll wait"
"How was your trip?" She asked,
"It was great. I was able to get the work done and I got a tour too"
"No wonder you didn't call me for a day and a half" she frowned.
"I'm sorry" I held her hand,

"We're here!" She beamed with a smile.
She parked in front of a restaurant.
"This is where I work and where your surprise is. But, I'll introduce you to my boss first"

We walked in and a man in his early 30s approached us.
"Dre, this is my boss, Mr. James, and Mr.
James, this is my husband, Andre"
"Nice to finally meet you," he said and shook my hands.

We were talking when I noticed that he kept staring and checking Reyna out.

It was infuriating to watch. I wanted to punch him so badly in the face but I didn't wanna ruin today for Reyna. I just had to hold it in.

"Boss.." she said smiling at him,
"Sure Reyna" he smiled back handing her a blindfold. I hated the way he was smiling at her and how she smiled back.

"Dre?"
"Yeah?"
"I'm gonna have to blindfold you for the surprise," she said.
"Okay," I smiled as she blindfolded me

"Take my hand and I'll guide you," she said placing her hand on mine. I held onto her.

"Are we going up the stairs?" I said as soon as I stepped on one.
"Yup. It's a rooftop surprise" she said
"But.." she gave me a quick peck on the lips.

"Trust me," she said. She sure knew where to hit the mute button.

"Okay," I carefully followed her lead. It was difficult.
She let go of my hand and I assumed we were on the rooftop.

"Can I take the blindfold off now?" I asked,
"Just a second"
"Okay, you can take it off now"
I did and the first thing that caught my eye was the floor lights that gave beauty to the place. A table for two in the middle of two pillars.
There was a board on the pillars with radiating lights, boldly written on it
Happy anniversary babe.

"Happy 100-day Anniversary Dre," she said
"Happy anniversary," I said and placed a kiss on her forehead.
We sat down and I remembered I got her a gift. I brought the little jewelry box out and took out the love-shaped necklace.

"Close your eyes," I said.
"Okay" she did and I wore it around her neck.
"Can I open my eyes now?"
"Yeah" she looked at it and held it.

"It's beautiful."
"Glad you like it"
"But I didn't get you anything," she said.
"What are you talking about? You put in a lotta effort to make this place beautiful and you baked muffins too. That's enough for me"
And she just smiled as we were served steak.

I helped her cut her steak. " Thank you"
"Yeah. Is your boss gonna watch us all night" I said. He had been bothering me by staring at us.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I'll leave you both" he said and left. I'm glad he read the room.

"We can have the muffins I baked for dessert"
"I'm sure it tastes amazing"
