My Mother Wants Me Dead:   Carolesdaughter

"Three more, B!" Miles calls out.

I give him a thumbs up as I run around the field. "Lana." I exhale. "I know you quit cheerleading and everything, but would you mind-"

"Go, Brianna! Go, Brianna!" Lana cheers me on with Clark beside her.

"I feel special." I send her a smile.

She chuckles as I speed past her and Clark. "You know, if you join the track team, I'll get back into cheerleading!"

"Lana, why don't you say you want me?" I heave and she laughs.

"Two more!" Miles shouts and I nod as I continue running. "Alright, one more, B. One more." He claps his hands.

I pick up my pace and my body hits another one. "Well look who almost ran who over." I raise my eyebrows as Clark catches me.

"But mine's an accident." Clark mocks my raised eyebrows.

"Where's your proof, Kent?" I pull away and stand up, then holding my stomach. An ache passes through it and I slightly wince.

"Woah. Hey." He places his hand on my shoulder.

"I'm good. No need to get handsy." I shrug his hand off me.

"I wasn't-"

"And that was your last one. You did good." Miles walks over and we high five. "Way better than last time." He mutters and I hit the back of his head before rubbing my shoulder.

"You okay?" Lana walks over and places her hand on my good shoulder.

"Yeah." I nod. "Listen, um, about last week-"

"I know, Brianna. You don't have to apologize. I didn't mean to smother you. We're all really scared. I still am."

"Don't be. And you didn't smother me. Just never had anyone care that much before." I catch my breath and look around, then thickly swallowing. "So when's our first date?"

"Whenever you want it to be." She raises her eyebrows.

"Man, I cannot tell you how much I like that answer." I smile and she laughs.

"B, is there some things we need to talk about?" Miles asks and Lana laughs again.

"Later." I nod at him.

"Got it." He nods back.

"So, how'd you get out of gym class?" Clark wonders.

"I'm spared the sweats a couple of days, perk of chairing the blood drive." Lana tells him.
