1937 Skate Park: Car Seat Headrest
"It's $2.07." The cashier tells me and I nod before taking out some money. "It's $2.07."
"Yeah. No, I know." I reply.
"Yeah, you're holding up the line." He inquires and I take a penny from the cup before placing it down on the counter. "No. You can leave a penny, you can't take a penny." He places the penny back in the cup.
"What?"
"You can leave a penny anytime, you have to spend ten dollars to take a penny. It's store policy. You're holding up my line."
"I don't have two cents."
"You can't afford milk, step aside. Daddy didn't give you enough milk money today?"
"We're talking about two cents."
"Just step aside, Miss." The cashier tells me.
"Dick." I mutter and step aside. I then see a guy with sunglasses head over and knocks over a shelf of gum.
"Really?" The cashier bends down to pick it up.
I see the guy take the money from the register, then tossing me my juice. I send him a nod before leaving. I adjust the collar of my hoodie and I cross the street.
"Hey, man, stop! Somebody stop that guy!" The cashier shouts. "Hey, kid, a little help?"
"Not my policy." I open the juice and sip some.
"Somebody stop that dude! Hey! Hey, stop!" He bellows. "Somebody stop that dude! Hey!"
I then stop in my tracks as I hear a gunshot. I turn and make my way over to the body across the street. "Dad!" I drop my juice before kneeling down to him and the guy with sunglasses runs off. "Oh, God, oh, God! Dad!" I now place my hands on his wounded stomach. "Call an ambulance! Someone call an ambulance!" I scream with tears in my eyes. "No! Dad! Stay with me! Stay with me! Don't leave me! Dad!"
"No!" I let out a strangled sob and shoot up from my bed.
"B." Miles now rushes in. "B!" He now pulls me into him and I let out another sob. "You're okay. You're alright."

"I'm fine, Miles." I eat my cereal.
"You're not fine, B. You're having your nightmares again." Miles tells me.
