Reach For The Sky: Social Distortion

"Cart was loaded with bricks for ballast." I crouch down to the cart.

"So, Ronald Danzer cheats half of Gotham out of their savings, but before he can stand trial, an unknown man clips him to a balloon? No body? We calling this a murder?" Jim questions as I stand back up.

"Call it a public service. Danzer was a bum. He got what he deserved. I'm gonna go get a danish. It's what I deserve." Harvey walks off.

"Danish? Really, out of all the desserts. A danish." I inquire.

"Yeah." Jim nods before we share a chuckle. "C'mon, I'll buy you a milkshake."

"Do you ever do anything that's fun, kid? Like have cold one just cause?" Harvey breaks the silence as I sit at Jim's desk, reading.

"Like you do?" I quirk up.

"Yes, exactly. Just like me."

"When I feel like drowning my sorrows, I'll let you know." I turn and place my feet on the desk.

"I just met Lieutenant Cranston." Jim walks over to us.

"The man, the myth, the legend." Harvey inquires and I turn a page of my book.

"He's a thug. So, no fingerprints, and those carts are too easy to buy or steal to trace."

"How you coming on those death threats?" I question.

"I thought we talked about this." Harvey says.

"Ronald Danzer was murdered. It's our job to catch murderers."

"It's not your job, kid."

"Not yet. But I'm assisting you both, am I not? So it is my damn job."

"The guy was a crook."

"Who had not been convicted of any crime."

"Tell that to the two guys who killed themselves because he lost their life savings. This guy was living high for thirty years while the city kissed his ass and gave him awards for being such a philanthropist."

"So we just let his killer go free." Jim nods.

"Guy walks in here, holds out his hands, I'll arrest him.
Otherwise, I'm content justice was served." Harvey tells him.

"Like with the Waynes? Is that what you mean?" I snap before shutting my book.

"Mario Pepper killed the Waynes. We killed Pepper. That case is closed."
