Miles pants as he sits next to me on the bleachers. "How are you not dead?"
"Hello, have we've met?" I drink my water.
"Right. The girl who can slam 300 pound meatheads to the ground without any difficulty at all."
"You know it." I take my hair tie out.
"This marathon was nothing for you? Really?"
"I wish it was longer." I shrug.
"I'm gonna go ice my legs." Miles exhales and I chuckle as he gets up. "Freak."
"Lightweight." I start putting my hair up in a tight ponytail.
I tighten it once more and get up. I wipe my jaw with the inside of my arm and spot the pull-up bar from a few feet away. I make my way over and I grip the bars, now pulling myself up.
"One." Lana starts to count and everyone turns their heads. "Two. Three."
"Four." The other kids start counting as I keep pulling myself up. "Five. Six. Seven. Eight. Nine. Ten. Eleven. Twelve. Thirteen. Fourteen. Fifteen. Sixteen. Seventeen. Eighteen. Nineteen. Twenty."
"Dammit." I exhale and my arms gives out. My sweaty hands slip from the bars and my feet hit the ground.
"Whoo!" Lana cheers while everyone claps.
"I'm impressed, Miss Brady." Mister Altman tells me.
"Thanks, Mister Altman." I nod and wipe my hands on my sweatpants.
"Didn't know you had that in you." Clark walks over.
"You've seen me bench 150. I can't help but be offended." My chest heaves up and down.
"Mission accomplished." He hands me some water.
"You're not funny." I drink some. "I used to be able to do more." I wipe the cold sweat off my forehead.
"Really?"
"Yeah. But I stopped for a while, after everything. I was way too skinny. Still am now."
"You're great the way you are. Whether you're thin or not." Clark inquires.
"Did you just say something remotely nice to me?" I raise my eyebrows.
"Remember when you kept talking about how the pity card works wonders?"
"I don't really like you very much, you know that?"
