Boulevard of Broken Dreams: Green Day
"Ready! Down! Set! Blue-47! Blue-47!" Dan shouts as I sit with Miles and Clark on the bleachers.
"Hut!" Colton calls out.
The ball is passed from one member of the red team to another who then throws it to another red across the field. The player catches it.
"Nice one, Cormier! Way to find your man!" Coach Teague smiles.
"Woo! Alright, Dan! Looking good, baby!" A cheerleader beams and I roll my eyes.
"How did I do this for six years?" I shake my head.
"Duh, you're Brianna Brady." Miles tells me. "And cause our brains weren't fully developed yet and all we cared about was having fun and getting a scar to show off."
"You don't need to stay on the bench because of me. Go tackle some idiots." Clark nudges me.
"What makes you think I'm doing this for you?" I furrow my eyebrows.
"Cause we both know you need me."
"Careful, Kent. You're about to lose the only member on this team who doesn't wish you were dead." I point at his chest before raising my eyebrows.
"I think I'd rather be dead."
"Fine, if that's how you wanna be." I shrug before I get up and put on my helmet. "Have fun being fresh and dead meat all year." I start to walk before a hand quickly grabs mine and I turn to face Clark. "Amateur." I scoff. I take off my helmet and sit back down.
"Hey, Clark. How you holding up?" Coach Teague walks over to us.
"Just enjoying the view. From the bench." Clark nods.
"Right, listen, I, uh, talked to Coach Quigley about you." He kneels down to him. "But you know him. He's old school. He already feels like he's got a squad for the season. But just, uh, hang in there for me, alright?"
"Yeah." He nods.
"Brady, you're our quarterback, get out there."
"I will. Just waiting for the nausea to pass." I nod.
"Let me know when it does as soon as possible." Coach Teague tells me.
"You got it, Coach."
"Miles Devroe. You play?"
"Oh, God, no." Miles says and I chuckle.
"I bet you can." Coach Teague tells him.
"I tried in freshman year, I'm prone to TBIs now." He nods.
