When Lan Xichen woke up, it was dark outside; it was dark and quiet. The only dull sound was the slow, gradual thawing of the new snow.
He took a second to get oriented, he was still feeling quite dizzy because of the terrible jet-lag, but he knew that his lover was very close by – a light snore just next to his ear made him smile immediately.
He was smiling so much more lately...
Not the fake smiles and forced laughter that his public persona demanded from him, that his job required. His true voice, his true laughter. The ones coming from his very soul. Jiang Cheng was triggering those, calling them forth, from the very depths of him.
It was so nice... It was unbelievably nice. He had never believed he would have this, this overwhelming happiness inside his soul.
- Baby... - he murmured, turning a little to the side, reaching out in the dark, uncaring which part of his loved one he would find: all of it deserved love, and kisses and caresses.
All of him was Love, and Lan Huan craved to show him all the love he harbored inside of himself for him.
It was all for him.
- Let me sleep, asshole... – Jiang Wanyin mumbled, and sharply turned his back to him, still tired, still mad at him for something small they had had an argument about earlier today.
The smile never left Lan Huan's lips, he just scooted closer and kissed the silky curls that were spilling on the bed between them.
- I love you. – he whispered very softly, hoping that Jiang Cheng had fallen asleep again, that he didn't hear him.
Oh, but he did. He did.
Jiang Wanyin felt the warm careful palms touch him again, and he secretly smiled.
How could this be so good? How was it possible? How was it allowed?!
He should not have been allowed to have such perfection, to possess such perfect joy. His lover was his world now, and he was happy, and he was also terrified. Because, if anything was to happen to Lan Huan, he wasn't sure... about himself. About staying sane.
He was pretty sure he was going to lose his mind. He had no doubts about that.
The big warm palm reached to find him, and it did, landing on his hand, on his ring.
His ring.
Their fingers interlaced and he sighed, suddenly relieved. There was such strong reassurance in Lan Huan's embrace... After all, he was a god. He was invincible, he was immortal. Jiang Cheng was sure of it.
