Lan Xichen hesitated only for a moment.

He had planned to take his car today  –  it would have made travelling to the city center a lot faster, but then his schedule for the day changed, now with the meet-up with his future brother-in-law added to the list of appointments. Also, parking in front of Jiang Cheng's building was always nigh impossible, and he was already sick and tired of having to go and argue with the towing service on a regular basis; just like he hated the idea of someone else touching his lover  –  he abhorred the idea of someone else handling  his car.

There was one more reason, and it was also the most important one: today his lover needed him, and he preferred the back seat of a taxi, where he could spend 40-50 minutes hugging him, instead of just sitting in the driver's seat.

Jiang Cheng was just coming out of the shower, when he overheard him ordering a taxi over the phone, and he frowned. Did this mean that they were not going to sleep together tonight?

- We need to hurry, A-Cheng. The cab will be here in about 20 minutes.  –  Lan Huan sighed.

- Hmmm.

- Don't be grumpy, come on! Once I get a chauffeur, this all will be over! He will be taking care of everything!

- Or she!   –  Jiang Cheng grumbled, still quite grumpy.

He was totally torn about this. He was not sure any more which one would be the lesser evil   -    having a man or a woman as Lan Huan's bodyguard.

At first, he had thought that girls would be a greater temptation, but now he wasn't so sure any more. He knew for a fact that Lan Huan was looking for someone with previous training, preferably  –  in the military, and this meant someone quite tough, buff and big....

Just like he himself was... just like Mike fucking Flannegan was... It seemed that this was Lan Xichen's type  too, and he himself looked nothing  like it.

He cast a quick look at his naked body in the mirror, now getting dressed distractedly: there were new, fresh bruises where Lan Huan had been squeezing him the tightest today, but he didn't mind. Those didn't hurt. He knew they would, a little later on; his body was still pumped full of adrenaline, which dulled all pains. Those bruises were precious to him; they were a pulsating memory of their closeness, of their togetherness.

- Are you OK, Wanyin?  -  Lan Xichen was in a hurry now, but still managed to grin at him, looking like an evil cartoon character, perhaps closest to the Grinch

- Hmmm.  What did the moron want?  –  he huffed.

- Oh. Umm, we are just meeting up for a quick chat!  –  Lan Xichen answered distractedly; he had bigger fish to fry today  –  he had a meeting with the D.A.'s deputy today, and it was far more important than Wangji's shenanigans.  –  But, you know, I cannot ignore one of our richest clients any more!  –  he laughed out loud; for some reason, the fact that Wei Wuxian was now a millionaire amused him hugely.
