When Lan Xichen entered the bar, he was still in the mood for joking.

He had totally suspected that Wen Ning had made his beloved A-Cheng stay a little longer so that they could chat. And  –  had it been any other day  –  it would have been fine; but today was Wangji's wedding day.

- Hey guys...

He barged in, totally planning on making a joke and mocking them for being old gossipy grannies, talking until the cows came home. But his eyes scouted the premises, and he immediately frowned.

There was a line of customers at the counter  –  some were mumbling, holding money or credit cards in their hands, others  –  more bold  –  were ready for an argument, demanding to see the manager.

There was no one behind the counter, and there was no Jiang Cheng anywhere in sight.

Lan Xichen felt his heart skip a beat, but still, he managed to take in a deep breath and listen:

- Hey! Where's the bartender?!

- OK, I really have to go now! I am leaving this 10-dollar bill here, alright??? It's just one coffee! Keep the change! Idiots!

- What the crap is this? A farce??? We have been waiting to be served for half an hour now! Is there anyone running this place at all???

- Oh, come on! We are leaving!

- Hey? Hey, Mister? Just where did the bartender go???

- I am sure as hell not coming back to this bar! Uh!

Half an hour.

Jiang Cheng had been absent for an hour.

15 minutes, 20, give or take, for his meeting. 30 minutes.

Something bad had gone down, 30-40 minutes ago.

Lan Xichen felt cold.

Numb.

The worry that overflooded all his senses gave all his neural network a short-circuit effect of sorts, and he just stood in the middle of it all, trying to think, in freeze.

The commotion was bad, it prevented him from thinking straight.

He was too late.

There was very little he could do any more.

But his better  set of character traits and qualities kicked in, and he suddenly stepped onto a chair, and shouted authoritatively:

- Everyone out! Now!

Yes, this set of characteristics was the reason why his parents hated him. Why he was such a good professional. Probably... also why... his lover adored him so.
