Chapter 3: Soccer
(Aris POV)
I groaned as I sat up. My neck hurt from all commotion last night. As my eyes focused I realized I was in the guest bedroom. I'm pretty sure I passed out on the ground last night. I got up to see there were no cuts or scratches on me. I ran to the bathroom to see one particular scratch on my nose. "Ugh, what happened?" I whispered getting a band-aid out of the drawer. Slowly sticking the bandage on my face, I started remembering moments of the night before.
What could that have possible been? It was nothing I've ever seen or heard before. Maybe someone at school knows about them. "SCHOOL" I yelled. "SCHOOLS TODAY!"
I brushed my teeth fast and grabbed my backpack.
"Bye grandma, thanks for letting me stay over!" I yelled not waiting for a response. I knew I was late already.
~Time skip~
As I walking into my forth hour late everyone stared at me like I was a need to be squashed bug.
"Why do you have a band-aid on your face?" said the class clown. His name was Nolan, he thinks he is cool but in reality everyone thinks he is annoying.
"Nunya," I said walking to my seat. "Oh how original," he said laughing. "Enough, enough," the teacher exclaimed.
"How many people in here want to join the science fair club?" asked the teacher. I raised my hand along with some other kids.
"So y'all are going to split into groups of two for your science projects," she exclaimed. "So y'all can chose your groups now but dont make me regret this."
After she said those final words the few kids who joined started calling each other's names out asking to be partners. No one called my name at first but then i heard a distant, "Aris!"
I looked around the room to see who was calling my name but was shocked to see her at the corner of my desk. Asking for partners.
Jocie Allison Bond.
"Hey Aris, wanna be partners for the projects?" she asked. It took a moment for me to process what was going on.
"Yeah sure," I answered.
This could either end happily or horribly.
~Time skip to lunch~
I got lunch by myself but was surprised to see Jocie join me instead of hanging out with her friends.
"H-h-hey, Aris I was wondering if you had any ideas about what you wanted to make for the fair?"
I set my apple down and said, "No, not really, it's hard to come up with ideas when your forced lol."
"But you signed up? That's kinda the whole point, is to make something?" she exclaimed. "Yeah but I'm sorta being forced to do this..." I said. She titled her head, "How so?"
"I've always been a goodie goodie my whole life so if i stop, my father would kill me... He wants me to be a Lawer but I'm not even good at talking to people..." I exclaimed, "I just wish that he would... Listen." I glanced at her, "Sorry... I just don't talk to people about my struggles."
I sighed, "Why are you doing the science fair?" She looked at her tray, "Same as you I guess but my mother, she wants me to put my brain towards books and my education." I clicked my tounge, "Sounds like you and me both have parent issues, do you have any siblings?" She nodded, "I have a younger sister but she is home schooled right now."
Silence grew between us. I tried playing it off but it got awkward. After some time of munching on corn dogs, lunch eventually ended and we all went to recess.
As usual I went to my area and read a book. After about 7 minutes of reading, Jocie and her girlfriends came over to me.
"Hey Aris wanna join us in Soccer?" one girl asked. I don't even know her name. "Uhhhhhhh I'm busy now but thanks," I said. "Oh come on pleaseeeeee! You're part of our group now!" Group? I've never even talked to Jocie little alone her girlfriends. I thought about it for a second though. They actually want to hang out with me!? Aris? The big nerd? "Fine but just one game," I said. The 4 of them cheered including Jocie. What was I getting myself into?
Once we made it to the fields I was shocked to actually feel what it's like being in the center of a soccer field. It's much bigger once you're on it. The field beside us was packed with a bunch of football boys toppling each other over.
I couldn't imagine what would happen if my father saw me doing this. Most father's would like there son to play sports, not mine.
A girl came back with an old rubber ball and set it in the center of the field. Everyone got into there spots, except me.
"How about one of us keeps score, Mattie why don't you keep score?" One of the girls said. "Sure I don't like running around." I assume that girl was Mattie.
We split up into teams of two. Jocie was on my team while the two other girls where on the opposite team. Then... Silence. I stared at the soccer ball in the center.
"3,2,1 PLAY BALL!" yelled Mattie.
Everyone started running towards the ball while I stayed in my spot. I wasn't completely sure how to play but all I know is that you have to score. Two people kicked the ball at the same time and it went straight up in the air. I awhed at the sight of it in the air before it hit the ground and landed straight in front of me. I looked around for Jocie but it all moved so fast that I kicked it with the side of my foot as hard as I could, straight into the goal.
Every gasped at the sight including me. "You're telling me you make that, that far away?!" yelled a girl on the other team. "I just... Kicked it, did I mess up?" I asked. They shook their head. "Alright Aris and Jocie one, Lexy and Sam zero!" "What are we playing to?" I asked. "3," said Mattie. I nodded.
They placed the ball in the center again but this time they get to kick it. I didn't hold back, one they kicked the ball I ran straight toward it and stole it right in front of their eyes. Both of the girls were behind me now but Jocie was already at the goal, I passed it to her and she scored!
We cheered at our second goal. This was so new to me. I kinda liked it!
When we're about to start our third game, the bell rang for all of us to go inside. We all said our good byes and headed to our classes.
That was actually quite fun, I should be social more.
