Chapter 16: Gone for good

(Aris POV)

Entie slowly lifted me up to my bedroom window. It was hard to see now that it was late. I was gonna pack my things and leave.

I slowly climbed through the shattered window trying not to step on anymore glass.

"Entie, please wait outside. For real this time." I said firmly. He slowly ascended onto the dark ground.

I scanned my room for useful belongings. The room was bare and lifeless. Almost as if no one has ever stepped foot in.

I grabbed a small backpack and stuffed it with clean-ish clothes.

"I should probably get some food to take with too." I thought.

I slowly opened my creaky door and slid myself through it. I tiptoed downstairs trying not to skip a step.

After a few minutes of rummaging through the fridge and pantry packing small snacks, I began my descent of the kitchen.

I turned around to see my father glaring at me. I jumped at the sudden stare.

"I knew you'd come back." He stated.

"I had to, I'd starve on my own."

He chuckled," You wouldn't make it 5 minutes on your own."

"You'd be surprised." I said.

He chuckled again, "I've tried my hardest to take care of you and your siblings all my life, but all you wanna do is run away to grandma!"

He said that almost as if he was the villain.

"Maybe there is a deeper reason why I run away. Maybe I'm not just a normal teenager that gets good grades. Maybe I dont want to mope around all day talking about money and suits. Maybe I don't wanna be like you!"

He scoffed, "Why do you run away?! Is it because you wanna be with your girlfriend?! Is it because you wanna play soccer with girls?!"

"Or is it because of your little demon friend."

I dropped my backpack.

I snarled, "I knew you've been spying on me! I could feel it!"

"That demon figure has changed you! You're not the same Aris I used to know and love!"

"YOU'VE NEVER TOOK THE TIME TO KNOW ME! ALL YOU CARE ABOUT IS MONEY AND YOUR GOOD NAME! IF WE NEVER HAD WON THAT LOTTERY, WE WOULDN'T BE HERE NOW!"

"MAYBE IF I HADN'T HAD SIGNED THOSE ADOPTION PAPERS WE WOULDN'T BE HERE RIGHT NOW!"

My frightening look had faded away into shock. The room went silent.

"I knew it... All my life... I've never been one of y'all..." I wiped small tears away trembling.

"Aris... I- I- didn't mean-" he stuttered.

"No, no, I understand. You don't want me here. Well- Fine. I guess I'll go for good."

I inched my way toward and up the stairs. He reached for my hand but I quickly swiped away. I quickly started running up the stairs.

"Wait! Aris! You don't know what you're getting yourself into!" He yelled but his words ment nothing to me anymore. They didn't have to though because we would both be free. Free from eachother.

"Entie, catch me!" I yelled launching myself out of the window without hesitation.

As planned, I landed straight onto Entie's back.

"We need to leave, NOW!" I shouted. He opened his wings and started flapping them.

"ARIS WAIT!" He cried but his words went in one ear and out the other.

We took off straight up flying into the glistening dark sky. I closed my eyes wanting to escape from everything.

I let go of Entie and let the night sky take me. My life was now in slow motion falling upside down.

A second passed before everything sped up again.

Just as planned, Entie swooped down and caught me on his back. I dont need anyone else,

I just need my best friend and maybe someday, 'brother'.
