Chapter 24: Family

(Philip [father] POV)

The dinner table was filled with long distance family but felt so empty. Too empty. It's because we were missing a key part of the family. While everyone talked about shenanigans, I got up and tapped my glass with a knife getting everyones attention.

Everyone turned there gaze towards me and silenced themselves.

"Most of you know tonight is my sons 15th birthday. I appreciate you all for coming out tonight in support of him. We are in deep thanks of y'all and praying for Aris to return home safely one day. Anyone want to say something?"

To my surprise, Chloe stood up out of her chair.

"I know he can't hear this but, I want to apologize for every crappy thing I did to Aris. I blamed him for many things I did and took my youngest sister's advice over my older brother's. All I want to say is that I miss his company and wish he was still here..." she admitted tearing up.

"Thank you Chloe." I said. Just as I was going to sit down, Sarah stood out of her seat.

"I also want to say sorry!" she yelled. "I forgive him for hitting my head against the corner wall because it truly was an accident! I was also very annoying and always invaded his personal space..."

She sniffled and broke down onto her knees. "I MISS HIM DADDY!!I'M THE WORST SISTER EVER!! I WISH THE WORLD HAD A RESET BUTTON!!"

"Sarah! Please calm down!" I yelled but she screamed in emotional pain. Everyone has been miserable since he has been gone.

I could see Charlotte slowly tearing up looking at the two young girls bawl their eyes out.

"Excuse me Father." Charlotte said getting up and speedwalking into the closest bathroom.

I looked around the table to see everyone holding back tears. I suddenly realized I was the only one that wasn't emotional about my own son missing.

"Holy ****" I thought. "Maybe... I was the problem... The last thing we ever did was fight so maybe he ran away to escape this family. God damnit. Now I feel like an asshole."

How could I be so blind?

I was the problem the entire time.
