Chapter 31: Gray

(Aris POV)

2 years.

It has been 2 years since I've been here. I've become mentally broke. Nothing intrigues me anymore. Everything lost it's color and has no meaning.

I've tried to keep holding onto my life but everyday gets heavier and longer.

"Okay grumpy pants, you need to cheer up so I got you a little something." Hooper said patting my shoulder reaching into his pocket.

Hoopers become for cheerful than me surprisingly.

He handed me a piece of paper with drawings of arrows and labels.

"Whats this?" I asked intrigued taking the paper from him.

"A map dummy."

"Of what?" I questioned.

"The whole campus. Every vent, door, and cranny in this hellhole." He explained.

I scoffed scanning the paper, "Holy crap! Thank you so much but... I rather you escape than me..." I tried handing back the mapped paper but he pushed it away.

"Aris, I want you to have it to escape and find your family. Btw I have a photographic memory so I'll be okay."

I scoffed again surprised, "Thank you so much." Then... I smiled.

It was the first time smiling in so long. Its been way too long.

I held the paper up to my chest closing my eyes and thinking about what my family would say if I got back.

Would they hug me? Would they scold me? Would they cry? Would they...

Too many thoughts. Thats how panic attacks start.

I opened my eyes to be stared at by Hooper.

"I haven't seen you this cheerful in awhile." He stated. I nodded grinning.

I might actually be able to get out of here!
