Chapter 26: Odd 

(Aris POV)

One year.

Thats how long I've been here. At least thats what Hooper says. He is coming up on his fourth year here. I heard a rumor that they are only allowed to keep us here for four years then they have to let us go. Either that or it's fake.

~Outside~

I sat at Hooper and I's favorite spot and waited for him to arrive. Minutes passed but he didn't arrive. Our outside time only lasts around an hour.

Time passed but he never showed up. Maybe he got in trouble...? Or maybe he is sick? No he couldn't be... They put medicine in our food for that specific reason...

What could have possibly happened?

~Time skip~

Three days passed and he never showed up. Im starting to become worried for him.

I walked out to lunch time and was shocked to see Hooper sitting criss cross on the ground. I ran over to him and gave him a small hug. Once I pulled away, he blankly stared at me.

"Hooper! Where have you been? I missed your company!" I yelled.

He looked down, "Elsewhere."

"Elsewhere? Where is that?" I asked.

He looked around and said, "I cant tell you."

"Whats wrong with you?" I asked.

He sigh and rolled up his arm sleeve revealing a small bandage.

"Did you get a shot?" I questioned. He nodded avoiding eye contact.

"Why?"

"Like I said, I'll tell you later." He stated.

Just as I was going to try to squeeze more answers out of him, I caught a glimpse of someone familiar. Oddly familiar.

After a few seconds of observing the familiar being, I realized this wasn't someone familiar... It was someone I deeply knew with all my heart. Someone I care about more than I do myself.

We both made eye contact.
