"Did you guys give my phone number to anyone recently?" I asked the girls over our lunch table.
Last night's message had been imprinted on my brain and no matter what I did, I couldn't shake it off.
After I'd call Ezra in hysterics, sobbing over the text, we arrived to the conclusion, the sender of both I see you messages- there's no doubt it is the same person- must be someone from school.
"No, why? Did you get any late night booty calls?" Hanna joked and I rolled my eyes at her.
"No Han, it must had been a wrong number case" I lied, knowing pretty well the text was for me, for us.
"Are you okay?" Emily asked me in concern and I waved her off.
"Yeah, don't worry about me Em. Are we still on for later?" I changed the subject and thankfully they didn't seem to notice.
"Hell yeah, better early than sorry" Hanna replied, taking a bite from her bagel.
"It's safe. Better safe than sorry" Spencer corrected our blonde best friend, looking amused.
"Whatever, I just hope all the good ones aren't taken! I'm running for queen, can't look like trash"
We had planned to drive to Philadelphia after school, to look for dresses, because Homecoming was next week and if we wanted nice dressed we had to act soon.
When Spencer had told me about it last night, I had immediately turned down the offer, my mind still on the message. But when I mentioned the said trip to Ezra, he'd persuaded me to go.
Besides, if our mystery stalker decided to strike again I wouldn't be here to see it. What a better alibi than being out of town, right?
"That's technically impossible, you can pull of anything." Emily pointed her fork at Hanna who was sulking.
"That's true. And besides you'll win anyway" Spencer offered.
"I don't even know why I'm going to be honest. I'll just look pathetic" it wasn't like I could bring Ezra as my date...
God, imagine us walking hand in hand into the gym where the dances take place, in matching outfits. Yeah, that would totally be okay when everyone. Not.
"We won't leave you alone, and Toby promised to dance with you"
"Caleb too!" Hanna offered "Though I don't think that'll be necessary."
"Why?" Both Em and I asked but once again the bell rang interrupting our conversation.
"Ugr,algebra. See you later guys, I'll wait in the parking lot" Spencer bid us goodbye and was gone, Hanna following suit.
"Don't worry about not having a date okay?"Emily said while we walked down the hall to our next class.
"I mean we won't leave you alone, like Spence said"
"Thanks Em, I'm just glad to be going. I mean you're only a senior once right? I shouldn't miss it"
"That's the spirit! See ya later" She laughed and walked into her class, leaving me alone in the corridor.
My mood dropped immediately. I was acting like I was okay with it, so I wouldn't worry my friends, but in reality I was ... sad.
If Ezra and I were a normal couple, he could take me to prom. And it wasn't even prom I cared about. That was just a reminder we were dysfunctional.
