The 'interrogation' went on forever. They kept showing me picture after picture of basically every single person I've ever met and then continued asking me whether I thought they had a motif to harm me or not.
Honestly the whole thing was pretty pointless but it wasn't like I could speak up about it. The further into the identifying process we went the worst I became.
It really seemed like the whole universe was against what Ezra and I had. From day one everyone and everything was in the way.
"Aria!" the deputy caught my attention and from what I gathered from everyone's faces he must have been calling my name for a long time.
"I'm sorry, can I be excused? I am not feeling well" I lied through my teeth and the detective just srared hard at me before nodding reluctantly.
"Your lawyer will be here anyway to sort some things out with your parents. You don't have to be here for that"
At that exact moment, Mrs. Hastings popped her head into the room and greeted the the adults before smiling at me.
"Aria honey, Spencer and the girls are in the waiting room go join them until we're done"
I nodded and Dad helped me up. Hanna was the first who saw me coming out of the "interrogation room".
"Aria!" she run to me and hugged me as carefully as she could in order not to hurt me. "I'm so sorry, we wanted to tell you but your parents told us not too. You have to belive us we-"
"Stop. I belive you. I'm over it. You only did what you thought was right. How can I hold that against you?"
"Are you okay?" Specer asked hesitantly but I could tell she meant about everything, Ezra included.
"I just wanna get out of here. I can't face another detective or my parents for that matter."
"Let's go back to my place. My Dad will be there so your parents won't have to be worried somebody will snatch you away"
"At this point Spence" Emily said, "I don't even think your dad could stop whoever that did try the first time"
The hair on my back stood on end at just the thought of that, but I nodded.
"You're right Em. This is my life, there's no use to sugarcoat it. I think we learnt that the hard way a long time ago."Even Hanna looked sober after that. The truth was the four of us had gone through more crap than any normal 18 year old ever will.
"You're not alone though. You know that right? Everything that happens to you, happens to us too and I'm sorry but you can't change that" Hanna said and looped her elbow on my good hand.
"Honey you couldn't separate us even if you tried." Spencer smirked and took hold of my other shoulder"
Emily smiled at the three of us and held up her car keys. "I'm driving"
--
"Spencer you are aware you're not an FBI agent right?" Em laughed while Spencer wrote the date on a white drawing board she found in her basement.
After we left the police station, when we finally managed to persuade my parents to let me go, we drove straight to Spencer's where we had to undergo a series of questions by her dad. By the time I flopped down on her bed my head was spinning so Emily made us all hot chocolate to help me relax.
After we all had relatively calmed down enough, Spencer insisted on writing what we knew so far down on a board.
"Shut up Emily this will help us organise". She unclasped the blue marker she was holding and wrote a single name on the center of the board.
