Four things were important in America. Taxes, freedom, forth of July and school dances.

The latter had me waking up at six in the freaking morning on a Saturday. Now remember when I said I didn't care about homecoming? Well that was a lie.

The minute I decided I would go, I also decided I might as well go all out and enjoy the full dance treatment, meaning waking up at this ungodly hour to have enough time to get ready.

I hurried down the stairs and took a seat on the kitchen counter pouring myself some cereal in a bowl of milk.

I might be going a little crazy, but today to my absolute dread, mom was gonna introduce Laura to Ezra and I know there wasn't a way to stop that from happening  but I refused to go out without a fight, and by that I meant I would try my best to look good for me and for him.

"You're insane you know that?" Dad said coming in the kitchen with the daily paper in hand. "And apparently you're not the only one, I just saw our neighbor's daughter, Marylou, I think she's in your grade right?"

"Yeah she is, so what if you saw her though?"

"Well she was practically running out of her house with shopping bags in hand, I'm guessing she's getting ready for homecoming too?"

My eyes widened "Marylou beat me to it? Crap! I'm officially late" I hopped off the counter and run upstairs while dad was saying something along the lines of  "Girls are crazy".

Since I was going to be running around town all day I opted for something a rarely wear : jeans.

I was out of the door at exactly 7 o'clock which gave me enough time to go get coffee and then head to my eight o'clock beauty salon appointment.

"Morning Em" I greeted Emily who had an early sift at the coffee shop, so she could have time to get ready later.

"You're up early" she commented amused passing me a cup of coffee, without me having to ask for it. The perks of your best friend being the barista.

"But I'm not surprised since Hanna was here way earlier that you"

"What?! Damn and I thought my timing was good" I said to which she replied with a "you know Hanna".

I took a seat besides the said blonde who was sipping her coffee absentmindedly, and checking something at her phone's agenda.

I cleared my throat to make my presence known but Hanna only looked up enough to give me a smile and return her attention to the phone.

I sighed and leaned back on the couch, inspecting the place. The coffee shop was filled with just girls, who were either trying to wake up by sipping hot coffees like me, or were too engrossed on their phones making appointments for their hair and all that jazz that came along with school dances.

"You know I haven't forgotten about yesterday right? You never told me why you were crying like a lost puppy outside of my house"Hanna said out of the blue startling me enough, that I chocked on my latte.

"Hey, I'd make a cute puppy" I said lamely to avoid the question.

"Did you just say, you'd make a cute puppy?" Spencer asked, appearing out of nowhere, sitting down besides me, cappuccino in hand.

"I guess I did" I answered and turned to look at Hanna who gave me the we'll talk later look.

I stayed at the coffee shop until eight, chatting with the girls and promising I'll see them at Spencer's house at 8 in the night for the finishing touches.
