Chapter 35

Two seconds. Those two blissful seconds after you've woken up and the only things you are aware of are the bed underneath you and the sun on your face.

Or luck of it therefore.

I felt the fluorescents before I even opened my eyes. My two seconds were up. Hospital.

I was here so often that I felt the need to shout "Honey I'm home!" every time I was admitted.

"You are aware you have a monitor attached to your heart that makes it pretty clear you're awake right?" Spencer remarked.

Spencer?

My eyes flew open and I sat up so quickly my whole world started spinning and I blacked out.

"Hey!Take it easy"

"Spencer! Ezra...Jason...gun...dead..." I panted and grasped her hand, looking around frantically.

"Relax, everything is fine."

"But I was shot! Jason shot me!"

"No he didn't. I shot him"

My eyes widened to the point my eyeballs threatened to fall off. "What?"

"Well no me me, but the police"

"I am so confused Spence"

"Fair enough. Try to stay calm though, the doctors said you've been through too much" I just nodded and she went on. "Okay it all started when you decided to sneak out of my house, which by the way was a colossal mistake like honestly what were you thinking?" I opened my mouth to object but she cut me off. " Well I was coming to check on you guys when I realized you were gone."

She took a deep breath and continued. "I didn't know what to do so I run outside where I had told Ezra to park and sure enough you guys were just pulling off. I was frantically waving and shouting but you didn't see me so I run back to my car as fast as I could and followed you.

I lost you for five minutes and that's when I dialed the police. I didn't call just in case you and Fitz just wanted to drive around in the moonlight but something in my gut told me there was something wrong.

I finally spotted the car outside the cemetery and again had no idea what you too could be doing in there so I parked the car and literally crept to the church, in case I was interrupting something..."

"Spencer!"

"What? You guys are writers and you my lady are a hopeless romantic, what a better place than a cemetery to make out?"

"Shut up" I flipped her off but didn't push it because well we did make out.

"Anyway, I was just making my way to the back of the church when I heard him. I was so shocked that I almost blew my cover. I must have gasped because Ezra saw me. Jason was talking, yelling, at you Aria with the gun pointing at your head, which was the only reason why he didn't hear me. I motioned to Ezra to keep talking to him long enough to make the call."

"He heard you Spence, I remember thinking that he was trying to distract him"

"I didn't want to leave you out of my sight but I had to make the call. I phoned them and explained what was happening, insisting on them being discreet"

"I don't understand. He shot me Spence, I saw him"

"No, you heard him. By that time 10 officers were hiding in the trees and when you so stupidly volunteered to get killed they fired at him. The doctors said you heard the bang and your brain connected what you heard to the gun pointed at you, thinking that he did shoot you when in reality your body shut down from the sock and you fainted."
