"Well now that you told me your secret I can tell you mine", admitted Matthew looking at her with a genuine smile. "I'm a fairy as well. But just a normal one without the abilities that you seem to have. I only have wings."
Melody's chin dropped not having expected this outcome of their talk. Now she finally had someone with who she could talk about fairy-things. Who better than her platonic soulmate.
"That is awesome!" A wide smile spreaded across her face. Glad to know that she finally found someone from her species who in addition was her best friend. Best male friend.

"How in Edmunds name do we only found it out because you nearly died? Imagine one of us died and we would have never known we're from the same species. How horrible", complained Matthew.
"I know! Just imagine."
"No, I certainly do not want to do that." He shuddered at the thought. "Does your brother even know you are a fairy?"
"Yeah, he forbid me to tell anyone. So congrats you're the third time I broke that rule."
"Uhhh, such a rebel", he cooed laying his head on her lap and closing his eyes like the many times they have done that.
"Lucy said the same thing to me. Only in a different context."
"Wow, since when did you become a rulebreaker?", he asked jokingly.
"Since I nearly died", she said serious looking at Matthew. Their eyes met before they burst out in laughter. "You really are the only one with whom I could laugh about my near death."
And for once since the incident the blue eyes didn't bother her as much. Maybe it was because she now knew of his origin, the same of hers or because their souls really had a connection that allowed Melody to forget her trauma, just for a little while.
"It's not even funny", heaved Matthew who turned to his side to laugh whole heartly.
"I know", breathed Melody between her own laughter.
"Why the heck are we laughing?"
"You tell me!"
"We should stop", he said and put on a serious expression that turned to a grin the same second. Before he burst into another round of laughter.
"It's not funny", exclaimed Melody but she couldn't stop the laughter herself.
Their loud laughter caught the attention of some crewmen. Especially Deliam, he could regognize her laughter from anywhere. He jumped up the steps and ran over to the end of the ship seeing her laughing whole heartly with Matthew. At leat it wasn't Caspian, was his first thought.
"Melody", he shouted. Relieved that she seemed very much alive. Her gaze shot to him and her laughter stopped. Well, she had to face him someday.
"Deliam!", she smiled and stood up. Deliam pulled her into a hug.
"Are you alright? Who did this to you?", he bombarded her with questions.
"Don't worry, I healed myself. And some disgusting slavetraders."
Deliam's worried gaze turned to a deadly one making Melody shudder. He looked shortly to Matthew indicating for her that he stood behind them and could hear them.
"I know. He knows", she admitted before continuing. "And Lucy knows and... Caspian."
She didn't want to keep a secret between the two. Even tho she didn't trust her brothers actions she wanted to keep their relationship neutral. He grabbed her arm forcefully, making her remember the grip of one of her kidnappers. Panic rose in her chest but she tried to play it down. It was her brother for Aslan's sake.
"You know you shouldn't use magic! And you can't talk to anyone about your fairy-being!", he hissed enclosing his grip around her arm. She tried to wriggle out of his grip, but it was useless, he was a lot stronger than her.
"Would you've wanted that I rather died?! Are you out of your fucking mind? I saved myself because I used magic or else I wouldn't stand here! And why is it so fucking important for you that I don't tell a single soul about my fairy-being, hm? Because -shocking news- the slave traders wanted to burn me because they thought I was a witch, NOT a fairy!", she snapped, finally having had enough of his constant downtalk of her true origin. She was sick of it and after her talk with Lucy and Matthew she knew that being a fairy is rather magical than dangerous.
"Don't you see? They influenced your mind to think like that!", he tried to reason with her but Matthew had heard enough. He stepped to them and grabbed the hand of Deliam that was still tight enclosed around Melody's arm.
"Let. Her. Go", he spoke strongly while staring dangerously into his eyes. He could watch a verbal fight between them, but Deliam wanted to manipulate her and Matthew didn't trust that he wouldn't get any more physical.
Deliam wanted to retort something but the deadly glare Matthew send him made him loosen his grip before he let go completly.
"You will regret that. Trust me", Deliam hissed angrily at the two before storming away.
Melody stared at her retreating brother, tears in her eyes. She never wanted to fight with her brother but she didn't want to restrain herself anymore. She wanted to live her true self and not something she made up.
"Holy fuck. That was scary. Are you okay?", Matthew asked and put an arm around Melody.
"Thank you. I couldn't have done that without you here", she whispered.
"I will always be here for you." They both smiled, knowing that they could trust each other with their life.
"Come on, I wanted to tell Edmund too. He deserves to know as well", said Melody and pulled him back to the middle of the deck in search of Edmund.
"Meh, I won't tell him my origin. I will make a dramatic reveal for everyone." Melody had to chuckle at that because that was definitly a typical Matthew move.
They spotted Edmund, Drinian and Caspian staring through a small telescope to the coast of the island where they were heading.
"It looks uninhabited", commented Caspian. "But if the lords followed the mist East, they would have stopped here."
"Could be a trap", exclaimed Drinian, worried for their safety after what happend the last time.
"Or it could hold some answers", retorted Edmund. "Caspian?"
"We'll spend the island on shore, scour the island in the morning", he answered.
"Aye, your Majesty."
Caspian returned the spyglass to Drinian and went down the stairs on his way to the quarters. He nearly ran into Matthew and Melody, where the former had an arm around Melody.
"Caspian." Melody smiled when she spotted him.
"Hey, we'll go on shore of that island so prepare for the landing party."
"Aye aye", mocked Matthew him to which he earned a harsh glare from Caspian. It should have intimidated him but he just loved it too much to annoy Caspian. Especially since he figured Caspian's feelings for Melody.
"Are you alright?", asked Caspian Melody reassuringly still scared that something didn't heal.
"Yep, I'm fine", she answered, unconsciously stroking over her arm, where Deliam had grabbed her. Both boys noticed it but didn't say anything not wanting to seem intrusive.
"Well we wanted to see Edmund, so ... we'll see you later", told Matthew Caspian, before the former pulled Melody along to where Edmund and Drinian still stood.
Melody didn't saw how Caspian clenched his jaw and stared at her retreating figure. But Matthew did, when he glanced his way. He smiled knowingly.
