"Well we wanted to see Edmund, so ... we'll see you later", told Matthew Caspian, before the former pulled Melody along to where Edmund and Drinian still stood.
Melody didn't saw how Caspian clenched his jaw and stared at her retreating figure. But Matthew did, when he glanced his way. He smiled knowingly.
---
But they didn't reach Edmund and Drinian. They stumbled across Eustace who quickly scrambled to his feet as he sat on the ground.
"Melody. I am so sorry. Please don't ignore me anymore." Eustace looked to the ground. It was not a common thing for him to apologize and the fact that he did made Melody's heart well.
"See you later", whispered Matthew in Melody's ear before continuing his ascribed tasks.
"Why are you apologizing. And I haven't been ignoring you. I just nearly died", explained Melody to him.
His eyes grew big and he looked at her worried.
"Are you alright?"
She sighed, having heard this sentence too much for the last hours.
"Yes, I am perfectly fine."
He visibly relaxed and pulled her in a hug. It surprised both of them but neither complained.
"Why did you apologized?", asked Melody in a whisper.
"Well, I should protect the entrance and I didn't even notice the slave traders. If I had believed in Narnia a bit earlier and would have actually paid attention, any of you would have got captured or injured."
"It wasn't your fault. None was at fault for this. The slave traders were just shitty human beings that brought trouble."
He wouldn't admit it but it actually eased his mind that Melody defended him. It made his guilt vanish in thin air. She had a way with people that made them feel at home, that made them feel free to talk without getting judged. And Eustace greatly respected that of Melody.
"You know... you are the only one not judging me and keeping me sane", he admitted when he pulled away from the hug. Melody was truly flattered by it and was relieved that she had a good impact on others and not a bad one like her brother always said.
"I sure hope so", she joked and put an arm around his shoulder, pulling him along to Edmund and Drinian like Matthew wanted to do with her just mere minutes ago.
"I would very much like it, if this island would be safe, you know", commented Melody when she reached Edmund and Drinian, Eustace by her side. Both turned to her and Edmund was fast to enclose her in a hug.
"Yes I am alright before you ask." She patted Edmund's back reassuringly.
"But how?", he asked when he pulled back and looked her in the eyes.
Brown eyes met green. It didn't calm her as much as Caspian's warm brown eyes but she could look into Edmunds eyes -that stared at her- without flinching away. She looked around before she lowered her voice.
"I'm a fairy and I healed myself." She didn't care who knew anymore. Theses all were people she knew. People she could trust. And she had to finally put herself out there to live her true self without restriction.
"Haha. Really funny. Why didn't we come to that conclusion earlier. A fairy!", commented Eustace obviously not believing her.
Melody just chuckled and turned away. She winked to Drinian which Edmund saw and walked away.
"Was that just a joke?", questioned Edmund. "Or is she really one?"
"Just look at her. Do you really think someone as ethereal looking as her is a normal human being? It's incredible. I always thought fairies have gone extinct", answered Drinian him. He stared at Melody's retreating figure. He always wondered how their relationship could be described. Brother and sister was not quite fitting as he was several years older and it could never be lovers as they didn't had an ounce of romantic feelings towards each other. But when Drinian turned his gaze to Edmund and Eustace he knew.
