This night was going way better than I expected. It felt stress free and I didn’t have to sit around holding my breath afraid that something I’d say would make Ashter go off. He was being open and honest. Sharing things with me that I never knew. Deep and not so deep stuff. Like his favorite soda, (rootbeer), favortie childhood TV show (he said it was a tie between Hey Arnold and Recess) or deep stuff like his first impression of Margaret or if he wanted a family in the future. Suprisingly I even shared things about myself, something I was prepared to not do tonight when I first embarked on this odd bargain.
Apparently there was something else Ashter wanted to show me on his weird tour of his life in the city and I’ll say I was kind of excited. All the other places tonight let me get a glimpse at who Ashter really is and explain somethings that didn’t make sense. At the same though J was dreading for him to finally say that it was over. There was still this nagging feeling at the back of my head telling me that everything happening was too good to be true. Plus was I really up to allowing Ashter back in my life when I weighed all the bad that came with the good? I feel my face tighten from the intense thinking I was doing and there no doubt was a frown on my face.
I glance over at Ashter and he’s too busy being all relaxed a small content smile on his face as he cruises down the streets taking his sweet time. Great maybe he knew he needed to drag out this moment too. Ugh this was frustrating.
“Hey sweetheart.” Ashter speaks up breaking me out of my sour thoughts.
“Yeah whats up?” I ask trying to push the intrusive thoughts back in a box where they belonged.
“So remember the place where you practically stalked me and landed yourself in the middle of an illegal underground boxing ring?”
“Uhh what- why woul you-” I stumble around my words not expecting that question at all. Ashter chuckles when he witnesses my reaction his hand going to his mouth to cover it. I quickly recompose myself my arms crossing my chest in offense as I sit up in my seat.
“I did not stalk you, I was merely playing spies with Mason to figure out the sketchy situation you had going on. WHICH by the way was sketchy.”
“It was not sketchy trust me there are way worse things going on right under your nose in this town of ours.” Ashter tells me his eyebrows raising giving me this feeling like I don’t wanna know. “Anyways,” he continues as he makes a turn into a parking lot, “that's where the next stop is.”
My head whips around at that moment and I peek out of Ashters heavily tinted windows to confirm that we are in fact back in front of the shady looking warehouse building. My eyes widen a sense of fear coming over me. This was not some fun game like last time. Cops had raided the place and we barely made it out. What the heck could be significant enough about this place that this is one of his stops?
“Hey is it even safe ot be out here?” I voice the question running through my head but I am met with the sound of Ashters door closing. I hadn’t even heard him take his seatbelt off or anything. My panic doesn’t even get a chance to set in before the sound of my door opening reveals a patiently waiting Ashter. I bite my lip nervously glancing around for any hidden cop cars before slowly unbuckling my seatbelt and getting out. I don't know why but a shiver runs down my spine and I wrap my arms around me. It was very chilly all of a sudden.
“Oh don’t tell me that you’re scared now.” Ashter teases his lips curled in a smirk. I don't say anything but instead duck my head before rolling my eyes. He was getting a kick out of this.
“For your information I am not scared.” I say curtly my frown still on my face, “I’m just a little chilly. It is the beginning of October after all.” Ashters face relaxes after that and he moves to his car unlocking it before opening the door to the back seat and reaching in. His arm reeneters my vision and in his hand is a leather jacket that he stretches out handing it to me. I hesitate for a second but another gust of wind blows by and I grab it without another thought. I shrug it on the smell that only Ashter could possess surrounds me. Man this guy smelt good.
