By the time the nurse comes back, I’ve cleaned myself up to the best of my ability. I knew from her face though that she could tell I had been crying. I was just hoping she thought it was because of my leg.

“Oww.” I hiss as the nurse pushes down on the obvious bruise in the middle of my leg.

“Yep, I think it's sprained. Luckily it feels like there aren’t any bones broken, but just in case you should go to the hospital. I’ll write you a note for the rest of the school day. Can you call someone to pick you up?” The nurse throws all this information at me and I just nod my head at her question reaching for my bag. She goes to stand up but I shoot my arm out stopping her.

“Can I ask about the other students?” She looks back at me with a small smile on her face.

“Besides minor cuts and a bloody nose, everyone was alright.” She pats my hand gently and I feel myself release the tension in my shoulders glad that no one else was severely injured. The nurse walks to her desk in the corner of the room and I pull out my phone pulling up my mom's number.

The phone rings numerous times before the sound of her voice fills my ear letting me know she can't come to the phone right now.

“Hey, mom. There was an incident at school and I’m going to go to the hospital. Don’t freak out, the school nurse says it's just a sprain but call me back please.” I hang up the phone after hitting the end call button muttering out a curse word. I couldn’t call my dad because he had a meeting two hours away today. I sigh heavily tapping my screen phone trying to think of what to do. I mean the injury was on my left leg and I technically only needed my right to drive. I might be able to make it to the hospital myself until my mom is available.

I glanced out the corner of my eye at Ashter who had been quiet this whole time. I was surprised that he had come back when the nurse came through the door, but there he was sitting on his phone with a grimace on his face.

He looks up and I quickly look away going back to playing with my phone. Trying to make it seem like I wasn't looking. I pulled up Riley's contact to tell her what had happened. Who knows maybe I can get her excused and she could drive my car to take me.

The nurse comes back at the moment with a slip of paper in her hand.

“Did you call your ride?” She asks me and I plaster on a fake smile telling her yes. I know I was lying but I really didn’t want to be in this room much longer. “Alright well I’ll give you one of the spare crutch sets that we have here, but if you could bring it back I would appreciate it.” I give another nod and she leaves behind the curtains once again.

“So you’re just gonna lie to the person trying to take care of you.” A deep voice says from beside me. I whip my head in Ashter's direction.

“Well, what was I supposed to say? Hey, no one can get me because they’re all tied up at work? I’ll be okay I can still drive.” I try to reassure him. The more he stayed around the worse I felt. He just shakes his head looking back down at his phone typing aggressively. The nurse comes back with the crutches helping me off the bed and showing me how to use them. It was weird. I had always wanted to use crutches as a child and now that it was happening I couldn’t wish for anything else. I hobble back and forth on the crutches getting familiar with the situation before getting the hang of it.

“Did your ride give you an eta?” The nurse asks as she hands me my backpack.

“Yeah, he’s right here.” The sound of Ashter's voice speaks up and I look at him shocked, my mouth still hanging open from trying to respond. I look at him confused but he just ignores me as he walks up to the nurse taking my outstretched backpack.
