It’s warm. Bright. Uncomfortably bright. The sound of chirping brings everything into focus. I was in the middle of the woods inside of a clearing the green grass appearing the sun shining off of water droplets. It was comforting. I take a seat in the grass closing my eyes and taking in the feeling of nature and the peace that came with it.
“What are you doing here?” My eyes snap open at the new voice head whipping around to face the person behind me. My eyes trail up taking in the tall figure the unmistakable broad shoulders telling me it's a male.
“Who are you?” A chuckle is what I get in response to my question and the sound of it brings a pang to my chest. “Oh come on Sweetheart don't play games like that. I’m the one who told you to come here.”
Sweetheart?
“It’s our special place.” The voice says before moving towards me to stand beside my seated figure. I look up into the person's face the sun behind him casting a shadow over his features making him unrecognizable. It didn't matter though for some reason I could feel my body relaxing the sound of the man putting me at ease like everything going on was normal. The stranger lets out a content sigh throwing his head back to the sky his hands placed on his hips.
“Feels good doesn’t it? Everything as it finally should be.” He says and I let out a gasp as his eyes open and he turns his head toward me looking at me out the side of his eye.
That green. I had seen it before. Numerous times. I feel myself furrowing trying to clear the fog in my mind. For some reason, I knew this man but I couldn't quite remember who he was. I stand up at this brushing the grass from my pants. I turn to face him my hand reaching out to touch him.
“I feel like I know you,” I state deciding to speak what was gnawing at my mind. He laughs this time and the sound once again sends shivers running through my body and a warm feeling in my heart. His hand connects with mine taking it and covering it before moving it to his face my hand cupping his cheek. Then he moves closer and as he does everything unblurs, clearing up the sun finally reaching his face. His green emerald eyes sparkle and a smile, a smile I could detect from 10,000 miles away makes me remember. My eyes widen and my mouth falls open in shock.
“Of course you do sweetheart.”
“Sylvie honey wake up!!!” My eyes flash open and I spring forward out of my sleep my head checking my surroundings. I was in my room. What the heck was that? I hadn’t had one of those weird dreams in a long time. I had been dreaming about some mysterious man with green eyes for the past couple of months sometimes waking up in a cold sweat.
There was no way though. It couldn’t be. Was it really him after all this time?
“Sylvie don’t make me come in there! Wake up! You only have 30 minutes until you need to be gone!”
“Mom I’m up. I’m up.” I yell ready for her persistent banging on my door to stop. It does and she yells a ‘love you’ before the sound of her retreating footsteps makes their way down the hall. I sigh my shoulders slouching running a hand down my face. That dream really just did a number on me. I stare off into space for a couple of minutes taking pleasure in the feeling of a detached mind and body before shaking myself out of it.
I throw the covers off my body turning to place my feet on my fluffy carpet. A yawn escapes past my lips as I scratch my legs considering what I wanted to wear today. It was mornings like this where I was grateful I showered the night before. I hadn’t planned on waking up so late but since I did the night shower saved me a huge amount of time. I trek over to my drawers grabbing some jeans and a shirt quickly throwing it all on before heading to my bathroom and doing the usual morning routine.
