HAEYUL KNEW IT WAS going to be an interesting day right from the very beginning of her trip from Kanyss back to the kingdom. She knew something was bound to happen—whether it be good or bad and she was right, a lot of good things did happen. For example, the seven princes decided to bond over a race after their trip. However, Haeyul did not expect to find herself being in the middle of the forest with no sense of direction on where she was going. A few moments ago, Haeyul had successfully avoided Jungwon after their odd interaction. While she was talking to Ms. Kim about the race, she spotted Niki, who didn't take any interest in the conversation his brothers were having.
She watched as he slowly separated himself from the others, making sure no one caught sight of him. As Ms. Kim told another fact about the princes to Haeyul, the young prince had made his way into the woods causing a wave of worry to wash over her.
Apologizing, Haeyul hastily excused herself and followed the prince.
It was her first time going into the forest, so she had trouble going through the rough path—the tree branches, prodded into her skin and the muddy ground caked her ankles.Haeyul grimaced at the unpleasant feeling but shook it off as her eyes roamed around the forest in hopes of finding a certain vampire. Clearly, she had lost track of him. He was too fast until she couldn't keep up.
As an exasperated sigh left her lips, she heard footsteps ahead of her. By the sound of it, the person must be near her. Mustering her energy, she took heavy steps forward, increasing her speed since she didn't want to lose the person. Once she saw the familiar tall figure standing alone, she stopped and observed the surrounding.
There was an enormous tree rooted in the middle of the forest- a tree unlike any others. Its trunk was much thicker than the ones she has seen, the leaves were dusted in silver, and the strangest part of the tree was its roots. It grew around a pond, creating a circular shape as if it was guarding for what lies inside the mysterious water.
Haeyul wanted to call Niki, but she hesitated in her actions. The depressing atmosphere didn't go unnoticed by her as the boy's shoulders slumped down. What happened?
The leaves rustled as the wind blew harshly causing Niki to turn around. His eyes met with the human's ones. Haeyul froze and the boy's face masked with confusion—the surprise peeking through his glistening eyes.
"Haeyul..?" He asked, "What are you doing here?"
"Shouldn't I be asking you that?" Haeyul rebutted, crossing her arms as she waited for an answer.
"I..." His eyes darted to the tree before answering, "was admiring this tree. It's beautiful, don't you think?"The sincerity in his voice distracted Haeyul from her own question as she directed her eyes towards the tree. "It's unique." She shortly said.
"That's all?"
"Honestly? I still feel like I'm dreaming whenever I see breathtaking things like this in this world. That tree looks like it came out of a drawing. Back in my world, the only trees that can grow like this are those artificial ones- basically fake."
