"It has been six days."
THE BLONDE-HAIRED vampire reported. The Solace was quiet. Jungwon tilted his head as he lightly scratched his neck. "Any difference from yesterday?"
Currently, they were discussing about Haeyul, her condition has been worsening ever since the fainting. It started as a mere fever but the previous night, one of the castles' maids found her struggling to breathe in her sleep.
Jungwon heaved a sigh. "It's a good thing, we decided to let her stay." Sunoo sassed, earning a few scoffs.
"She looked peaceful this morning when I checked up on her." Jake added.
Jay, who was sitting with his arms crossed and his back leaning against the cushioned seat, shook his head. "Why do we have to be involved in her problem?" He asked, "We can just send her to the nearest healers, let the witches brew a potion for her."
"We have to keep her as a secret. If anyone finds out about a time traveler, they will hunt her down to make a study on her." Heeseung answered, his voice held no signs of jest.
The room fell silent yet again. Jake fiddled with his fingers, glancing at only Sunoo and Heeseung. Ever since the disagreement between the brothers, Jake hadn't been able to talk or look at his brothers properly except for Heeseung and Sunoo. It was as if there was a barrier between them. He hated it.
Niki leaned forward, his eyes staring at Jungwon's. "I don't care about the girl." He stated, "But I won't let a mere human break our brotherhood so she can stay but if we fall apart because of her she needs to be leave."
The older brother didn't show a change of expression. Acknowledging Niki's statement, he tidied his things. "We should have dinner together, only the seven of us. Jay should cook." He suggested.
Sunghoon brightened, "Are we going to be playing a game?" He asked.
"We should do that!" Sunoo exclaimed, "It has been so long!"
"Maybe a game of hide and seek!" Jake said, his smile spread ear to ear.
Heeseung laughed. "Are we still toddlers?"
"We should live in youth while we still can."
"I agree!"
"Then, I should tell the maids to prepare the Great Hall for ourselves." Jungwon said, standing up from his seat. Even when the atmosphere of the room has lifted, his demeanor stayed the same, cold and distant.
Jay let out a sigh after Jungwon left. "I miss the old Jungwon." He admitted, resting his head on his hands as he leaned forward.
"We all do." Sunghoon said.
A chorus of hums sounded the room. It sounds cliché, but Jungwon had his childhood taken away from him too early. He was just a kid. Since he was picked to be the next in-line for the throne, he had to start his training earlier than the others. He spent most of his childhood days in the library, reading all of the books in the shelves. Sometimes Heeseung would find him asleep in the library at ungodly hours for a mere kid. In the end, he would be the one singing him to sleep and on special occasions, Jay would prepare a snack platter for Jungwon.
Heeseung and Jay were the parents Jungwon never got. Their parents were ironically cold like their blood. They never showed any signs of affection towards the boys, the closest thing they got was when they left each princes a letter for their passing.
Riki rumbled a cough, piercing the grim atmosphere. "If we're done here, I'm taking my leave." He told, tapping his feet on the carpet floor.
"Since Jungwon already left, meeting is dismissed." Heeseung said. One by one, everyone started leaving. Each brother went on their own way, busy with their own schedule.
Yang Jungwon was in his office. The sound of paper flipping could be heard as he skimmed through the files of documents his messenger had delivered earlier this morning. His hands scribbled on the rough paper, endlessly moving without halting.
He heard a knock on his door, "Your Highness?" A voice faintly called. The prince merely hummed, allowing the butler to enter the room.
"Sir, do you mind taking a small break?" The butler asked, "You have been constantly working for some time now."
"I will know when to take a break myself, Butler Lim."
"Of course, Your Highness. I'll be taking my leave now." He bowed.
As Jungwon heard the door close, he put his quill into the bottle of ink. The vampire shuts hit eyes momentarily, easing both his mind and body. He stretched his arms and back, hearing loud cracks, satisfying him.
While checking for any mistakes on his spelling or grammar, his mind wondered about a certain brunette. From the last report he heard about her, she was still unconscious. He shook his head and stacked all of the sheets of papers together. He rang his bell, and a maid came running into the room, "How is the girl?"
"Fortunately, she has woken up from her slumber, Your Highness."
"Prepare her for a dinner with my brothers."
"Is there a certain dress code she has to follow, Your Majesty?" The maid inquired.
"No need, it is just a dinner after all." Jungwon told, taking his leave from the office. He was quickly followed by his personal maid. "Any schedule I need to attend?"
"Only after the dinner, Your Highness." She answered.
Jungwon nodded curtly. "Prepare a bath for me." He ordered, undoing his first button. The maid hid her flushed face and scurried her way out of the hallway.
