MAEUM CAME TO a stop as the couple climbed off the horse, walking slowly towards the campfire. Its flames danced in the air, inviting them into the warm circle around it as the light up the darkness around them.
The prince stumbled onto the ground, collapsing as his energy drained from his body. The adrenaline that had surged through him before had disappeared as it was quickly replaced by exhaustion. Haeyul fumbled around as a sense of panic devoured her inside. She didn't have anything to aid him with.
Sensing her quick heart rate, Jungwon placed his hand on her arm as his head rested on her thigh. "Don't...panic." He breathed, "Call for them."
Haeyul gulped. Call for who?
"Call for your brothers?"
"Anyone."
"I-I don't know how to!" Haeyul cried. The fear enveloped her as she saw Jungwon's chest dropped all of the sudden.Jungwon inhaled deeply, mustering up the bits of his left-over energy and responded, "Use your mind." He told.
Before Haeyul could ask a question, she felt his breathing paused, his muscles relaxing. "Jungwon?" The girl shook his shoulders. With no response, she shook him harder. "Jungwon?!" She raised her voice.
"I'm....here." She heard his hoarse voice replied.
"Okay, okay," Haeyul assured herself, nodding her head as she fought the tears daring to fall down her face. She closed her eyes and spoke without much thought, feeling both lost and scared.
"Come on Haeyul. You can't fail now." She mumbled.
Attempting it for the second time, she closed her eyes and pictured Jake in her mind. She can only hope she was doing it right as she began to relay her message, "Jake, I need your help- Jungwon is unconscious- I don't know what to do, please..." She trailed off as she choked on her own tears. If only she was more skilled in riding a horse, then she would have been able to come here faster and Jungwon wouldn't be in such a deep crisis like this.
The brunette broke into a hurricane of tears as her frame shook tremendously, struggling to breath as her emotions overwhelmed her. It was as if she was thrown into an angry ocean to fend for herself. Hopeless.
Just as she thought all hopes were lost, a friendly voice filtrated her mind. "Haeyul? I'm on my way. Where are you guys right now?" Jake's voice called out.
Haeyul blinked, "I..we're at the campfire."
"We're on our way. While we're gone, try to keep Jungwon alive." Jake ordered, earning a nod from the poor girl."Jungwon?" Haeyul tapped his arm and he hummed, indirectly telling her to continue. "It's your turn to stay alive for me, okay?" The girl squeaked as her throat closed, making it difficult for her to talk. She swallowed her fear as she caressed his cheeks, hearing his heartbeat decrease in speed yet she couldn't do anything about it.
She glanced around the place and searched for a topic to talk about. Her eyes landed on the fire beside them. A smile appeared on her face as she was reminded of the night in Kanyss where they had their first kiss. "Won," She spoke, "Do you remember when we shared our first kiss under the starry night as the stars lit up the blanket of darkness while the fire warmed us from the cold?"
Jungwon nodded his head. "I remember being so scared at that time because I thought you were genuinely marrying Aene." Haeyul revealed and the prince laughed softly. "And then I told you to not call me darling since we weren't official yet."
The prince stayed silent as he reminisced the precious memory, pictures from the night flashing through his mind. He didn't like the way she was talking. It was as if she thinks it's their last moment together. Jungwon wanted to tell her that she doesn't have to feel scared anymore- that she is the only one that own his adamant heart. She is his and He is hers.
However, he couldn't.
He didn't have the energy to do so.The sound of her sobs reached to his ears, painting his heart with worry as he winced- not from the pain of his body but the pain he felt in his heart. He clasped her hand that was placed on his shoulder as he attempted to speak with her through the mind link. "Haeyul."
The girl didn't stop as her cries only got louder upon hearing his soothing voice. What if she loses him forever? Then what happens?
"Haeyul, you're not going to lose me." Jungwon told, "You're not getting rid of me this easily." He ensured her, hoping it will manage stop the fountain of tears falling from her face. Haeyul nodded, sniffing as she wiped her tears away, clearing her vision.
"Okay." She responded. In that moment, they heard several horses galloping towards their direction before taking an abrupt halt. The eldest prince rushed over to his younger brother, taking him away from the human while Jake and Sunoo prepared the potions.
"Jake!" Heeseung yelled, ushering him to come over, his voice laced with urgency.
The said prince immediately complied to his older brother as he took a bottle of potion out. Haeyul felt warmth engulfed her as Sunoo gave her a big hug, rubbing her back, mumbling words of affirmation.Minutes passed by but the three received no response from the raven-haired prince as his body laid unconscious on the grass. This worried everyone. "Do you think he'll wake up?" Jake inquired as he bit on his nails.
"He should be." Heeseung said, his arms crossed as his brows knitted together.
Sunoo sighed, "You all underestimate Jungwon too much. He's a very strong vampire you know." He told.
Before Jake can open his mouth to counter to his remark, they saw Jungwon shifted in his spot. Haeyul kneeled down, observing him intently as his eyelids fluttered open, revealing the dark orbs that Haeyul missed dearly. She helped him as he sat up.
"Jungwon.." Haeyul breathed out.
Suddenly, the brunette was tugged into a deep and passionate kiss as Jungwon held her nape while Haeyul snaked her arms around his neck. Tears unconsciously cascaded down Jungwon's face, not knowing how much he had yearned for her. Haeyul parted away first, lacking oxygen."Ew."
