"Why don't you sit with me and my guys," Victor offered.

"Okay," I said. "Sorry about Nitro by the way. He was in your gang, wasn't he?"

"Yeah. We miss him, but that's the sad thing about this job. It comes with risks."

"All the best paying jobs come with risks," I said.

"That's true," he agreed.

Victor showed me to his table and introduced me to all four of his gang members. None of them seemed to mind me joining them. They were actually pretty welcoming.

After a few minutes of conversing, Victor said, "So, Crypto, what do you think? Would you consider joining my gang? We all get along here and we're much more organized than Rockie and his gang."

"I don't know if you'd want me," I told him. "I'm usually pretty busy with my police work."

"That's okay. Unlike Rockie, I have enough members to pick up the slack. If you join us, that will give Rockie more room to hire someone else who is more available."

"Why would you want to hire me?"

"Becoming an Honored member showed me that you have some real potential," he said. "And we just so happen to have a space open for you with Nitro being gone."

"I should probably talk to Rockie about it, shouldn't I? I wouldn't want there to be any bad blood."

"Of course. I don't think he'll have a huge problem with it. He's been complaining about you behind your back."

"He has?"

"Yeah, because you're never available and it makes scheduling difficult for him, but I don't have an issue with it."

"Hm. I'll have to think it over," I said.

"Take your time. I was thinking you could make your decision after your special mission. It would make the transition easier for you. I'm gonna be on vacation for the next week anyway."

"What if I don't pass the mission?"

"We'll still take you. Passing the mission is just a bonus."

I smiled. "Okay. I'll think about it."

I was excited that I was finally seen as valuable to the others, and I liked Victor and his gang. They seemed intelligent and pretty chill. I was tired of the drama in Rockie's gang. It seemed like an obvious decision, except I knew it would make it difficult for me to hang out with Birdie, but maybe we could still work it out. Maybe she could text me whenever Rockie left and hopefully I would be available those times. I still would have to choose between having more time with Birdie or joining Victor's gang. It was a hard decision for me, especially since I didn't know exactly what to expect from Victor and his gang. I didn't know much about them.
