Ch. 6 : Not So Good First Meeting (?)

It's another busy day of dr. Gulfian. He's on duty at the ER today. He has been back and forth to there many times. He himself doesn't understand why are there so many patients coming on Friday. And, worst of all, he barely sleeps since last night.

Knock! Knock!

"Yes?"

"Doc, another patient is arriving in 3 minutes."

Seriously? I was just about to sit down. Sigh...

"Tutor, prepare the medical record! I'll be there soon!"

"Yes, doc!"

Gulf drinks a glass of water before going to ER. The patient enters at the same time. He immediately checks the patient and gives treatment. Luckily, she is out of danger for now. They will move her after getting permission from patient's family. While waiting, Gulf takes a seat in ER station. He needs to rest his legs and eyes. New patients will come sooner or later after all.

Just as his eyes are closing, the noise in the middle of the ER woke him up. He can't help but get up because the problem sounds serious. Gulf frowns. Seems like dr. Jennie, an ER doctor, has trouble with patient's guardians. It looks like they are threatening her. The female doctor is almost in tears.

"What's the matter, dr. Jennie?"

"I-I...", the cardiologist chuckles.

"It's okay, dr. Jennie. You can tell me."

"H-He came in with a head injury. I told him to sit and checked the condition first because our bed is full. I planned to treat his external wounds and send him for a CT scan. But, those men said I did it on purpose because I didn't want to treat him...", she said in a very small voice.

"Bring another doctor! Our boss needs a doctor who is more competent than that woman!", Gulf raises his right eyebrows.

"What did you say? That woman? That woman you call is a competent doctor."

"Huh! Try to be a hero apparently."

"No, I don't. I was just saying the truth. If you don't like it, please go find another hospital."

"Tsk! How dare you kick us out! People like you should get a lesson!"

"It's you who should learn basic manner. Get out now if you just want to make a scene!"

The atmosphere is getting tense. The group of people who came with the patient are stand-by for fight meanwhile the young cardiologist remains unbothered. He looks at his watch.

"Your boss doesn't have much time left. He's lost a lot of blood. Are you sure you still want to argue with me?"

"What?!"

"Now, you will step aside and let us treat him or you will let your boss dying there?", they are silent.

"dr. Jennie, go treat other patient! I'll take care of this."

"Thank you, doc!"

Gulf goes to get the equipments. He is still glaring at the people he had just argued with. Not without reason, they seem still don't like the doctor. He walks past them and checks the patient.

"Nurse Nam, please prepare an additional bed for this patient. Tutor, prepare for CT scan."

"Yes, doc!", both answer in unison.

"And, for all of you. I don't care if you don't like me. I'm doctor and I'm doing my duty. If you have problem with me, we will talk after my job is done. Now, step away from my way!"
