"Come on, Octavia! This isn't fair!" I giggled as she, once again, kicked my ass at the card game we always played.
Octavia grinned at me, triumph in her eyes. "What can I say? I'm great at this," she said with a shrug.
I rolled my eyes as I smiled, deciding we were done for the day. I picked up the cards and walked over to my bed to tuck them into my pillow case.
Octavia Blake and I were cellmates. We had been since she was locked up a year ago. We instantly bonded, having been through the same thing, aside from her being a year younger than I was.
I had just turned eighteen, so I was getting anxious. I knew my time for a trial would be coming soon, and I was admittedly scared for the outcome.
I hadn't been able to see my brother, Finn, much since I had been locked up and it was driving me crazy. I missed my annoying little brother, but I hoped I could see him again one day before my trial.
"What do you think Earth is like, Stel?" Octavia asked me as she sat on her bed.
I looked over at her with a confused look. "Why are you asking me this? We both know the stories."
"Yeah, but I just want to know your opinion. Please," Octavia begged.
I smirked at her, crossing my arms as I stood by my bed. "Fine... I think the grass is more green than we could ever hope, and the sky is so blue. I hope that the water is cool, but still warm enough to wade in. One day, I had hoped to be able to learn to swim, it always seemed so magical when I was a kid."
Octavia smiled at me, obviously happy with my response. She opened her mouth to say something more, but she was interrupted by the door to our cell opening.
In walked two guards with their shock batons. "Prisoners two-three-five and two-three-six, turn and face the wall. Hold out your right arm. Now," one of them demanded.
The two of us did as was asked, holding out our arms. I hissed in pain as I felt a poke in my wrist, pulling my arm in and cradling it to my chest. It's then I noticed the silver band encasing my arm.
"What the hell is this?" I asked, looking at the guard in confusion.
Neither of the guards answered me as they both took one of us by the arm, forcing us to walk out the door. I saw other kids being forced from their rooms along with the two of us and I realized what was happening. I stopped walking, but the guard just tightened his grip on me, pulling me along.
"No, this isn't right. I get a trial in a couple weeks and Octavia isn't eighteen yet! You can't do this!" I shouted as they kept pulling us down the hall.
I gasped as I felt a needle enter my neck and my vision soon went black, leaving me in darkness.
