It was now nightfall and Clarke still hadn't returned from speaking with the Grounders. A small group of us were all gathered inside the walls, anxiously waiting for her to get back.
Finn and I were stood next to each other, watching the gate closely. Bellamy was over with the guards watching the gate for Clarke to return.
"Why isn't she back yet?" my brother asked, anger in his tone.
"Hey, it's okay, Finn. She's Clarke, she'll be fine," I tried to reassure him.
He looked at me and nodded gratefully. We heard horses whinnying outside the gate and Bellamy took aim, watching at the movement outside.
"Hold your fire. She's back," Bellamy called out and lowered his gun, making sure none of the guards shot.
The gate opened slowly as Finn and I jogged over to meet up with Clarke as she entered.
"Are you okay?" Finn asked as he reached her, putting his hand on her arm.
"Shut the gate," Clarke said as panic laced her words. "You can't be out here," she whispered to Finn, pulling him into the camp.
I looked at Bellamy in confusion before we followed Clarke and Finn down to where her mother stood waiting. Abby and Clarke embraced briefly.
"What did she say?" Abby asked her daughter as they pulled apart.
Many other people gathered around, Raven pushing her way into the circle next to me.
"Is there a chance for a truce?" Abby asked Clarke, waiting for her daughter to answer.
Clarke nodded her head slightly. "Yes."
"What's wrong?" Finn asked her in concern.
Bellamy walked up, placing his hand on my back as we waited for Clarke to answer. The blonde girl slowly turned her head towards my brother.
"They want you," she said, looking at him before turning back to her mother. "If we want a truce, we have to give them Finn."
My heart dropped at her words and I shook my head. "No. Absolutely not."
Bellamy rubbed my back in comfort. I felt him tense up at Clarke's statement. Abby and Clarke stared at each other for several long seconds.
"What the hell are you talking about?" Raven asked Clarke, anger lacing her tone.
"That's their offer," Clarke told her.
"That's not an offer," Raven hissed out.
"It's a punishment," my brother spoke up. "For what happened at the village. Blood for blood."
"That's insane," Bellamy spoke up, his arm still tense around me.
Everyone was quiet for a moment before Abby spoke up. "If we refuse..."
"They attack," Clarke finished her mother's thought.
A few people had started to voice their opinions, most of them saying to turn Finn over to the Grounders. I shook my head in a panic, glancing at Bellamy.
"Bell, do something," I begged him.
He stared at me with a clenched jaw as more people spoke. Major Byrne stepped up. "Easy, people," she said, holding one hand out and one on her pistol on her waist.
"Give him to the Grounders," a man said, walking over quickly.
Raven turned to him, pushing him back. "Back off!"
