Two Years Ago
"Stella?"
I turned to face the source of the voice. I smiled softly when I saw my boyfriend, John Murphy, making his way towards where I sat in the small library.
"Hey, John," I grinned.
He rolled his eyes at me before pressing a kiss to my cheek. "You're the only one who calls me that, you know."
"I know. That's why I do it," I teased.
Murphy smirked before sitting next to me. He eyed the book I was reading and the notebook next to it.
"What are you up to?" he questioned me.
I raised one brow at him curiously. "Umm... the homework we were assigned?"
Murphy scrunched his nose up at me. "You actually do that? We're locked up every other day, and the one day we have to roam this wing of the Ark, you're doing homework?"
"What about it?" I crossed my arms as I sat my pencil down.
"I'm in love with the most boring girl in space."
I gasped in mock-hurt as I shoved him off of the bench seat next to me. I giggled at the wide-eyed look on my boyfriend's face.
"Oh, that's it," Murphy mumbled before he stood abruptly and picked me up off the bench.
I squealed as I wrapped my arms around his neck. "John Murphy, put me down!"
Murphy smirked at me. "No can do, gorgeous."
I sighed and shook my head with a small smile as he carried me to our usual spot. Murphy and I had a designated place we loved to sit together.
Murphy sat on the bay-windowsill with me on his lap. I leaned into him as he wrapped his arms tightly around me.
The two of us stared out at space, watching all the stars and rocks slowly float by the window. I closed my eyes as I listened to his steady heartbeat beneath my chest.
"Hey, promise me something?" Murphy said softly as he rubbed circles on my hip.
I tilted my head back to look at him. "What?"
There was a conflicted look in his eyes and I frowned as I sat up to sit between his legs. "John, what is it?"
"I just want to know you won't forget about me. You know, when I get floated," Murphy said as his eyes flickered between mine.
I reached up and pushed his shaggy-hair back from his head. "I could never forget about you. Besides, that day isn't for another two years, at the very least."
Murphy lifted a corner of his mouth in a small smile before he gripped the back of my neck in his hand and tugged my lips to his.
I melted into his kiss as I cupped his face in my hands. I moaned softly as Murphy put his hands under my shirt, his hands gripping my waist.
"John," I breathed out as he pressed kisses down my neck.
"Yes, Stella?"
I closed my eyes as a chill shook my body. "We can't do this here."
"I know, you're too much of a prude," Murphy teased as he pressed a feather-light kiss to my nose.
I rolled my eyes and scrunched my nose up, gently pushing his head away from me. "You're an ass, you know that?"
