Finally... Finally! I was home after two long months of touring the states. All I want right now is to see the smile on my baby's face when I give her the gifts she been wanting. I bought other things for the others too since I missed Christmas.
I got dropped off by a cab, not wanting anyone to know when I was coming. The driver helped me unload the van since I had so much baggage.
I opened the door to my home and no one was in the living room. He helped me put things inside then I paid him so he can leave.
"Thank you" I smiled and shut my door.
I sighed, relieved that I was home and able to spend the rest of the holiday with them. I know my mom was here since I smelt her famous soup joumou in the air. Oh how I love the aroma.
I walked in the kitchen to find her and Toni.
"Happy New Year" I said with a smile.
My mom turned and looked at me. She glanced at what I was wearing then looked away.
"Okay" I said under my breath "Happy New Year Toni"
She took a quick glance at me as she returned to cutting potatoes.
I smiled to myself as I rubbed my eyes. I knew this was already going to be a bad day.
I cleared my throat feeling my blood boiling throughout my body. "I brought gifts, if you guys are interested. They're in the duffle"
No response. I sighed and walked away. I took my personal belongings up the stairs. I dragged each bag up and by that it caused me to catch a migraine real quick.
My room was dark as it can be; I locked the doors behind me. I plopped down on the bed for a bit then looked at my phone. Aqua texted me asking to hang out if I made it home already.
I texted her "Sure" since it didn't seem like I was welcomed in my own house.
She replied "Meet me at Aventura Mall. New movie just came out"
I read it, but didn't reply.
I went downstairs again after a thought about something to ask Toni.
She was about to come up the stairs then turned away when she saw me coming down.
"Toni wait up" she stopped with her eyes low "Why are you so suspicious?"
She poked her lips out "Whattt" she blew a raspberry "You crazy"
"After I find out what's going on, then you can call me crazy"
She walked away quickly as I watched her go out the sliding doors to the backyard.
I shook my head. Toni was such a bad liar and I could tell when something was wrong since she'd start doing or saying random things.
I turned around to walk up the stairs, but my mom called me down into the kitchen.
I pursed my lips to the side with my eyes low. She handed me a knife with the same expression.
"How was the tour?" She asked chopping carrots.
I shrugged and cleared my throat "OK"
She cleared her throat loudly "What wrong with Toni?" Her Creole accent displayed.
