CHASE

"You want anything Jen?"

There's no reply, and once again I slide further down the wall, elbows resting on my knees and my head in my hands.

Jen asked me to drive her back to her and Justin's house, where she crawled into their bed and buried herself amongst the blankets and she hasn't said a word since.

I can't lie, I'm a little angry at Justin. We had it all planned out and he had to go ahead and fuck it all up. The plan we'd had, to beat the shit out of Zac (if not, kill him) was made to fall back on me for this very reason.

Jen needs Justin just as much as she needs air. She's not whole when he's not around. She's like a lost little soul who just lost her reason to live. It's now that I understand the whole "you're the air that I breathe" saying.

I can only hope I'll find the kind of love that they share one day, although; I'm not sure any love could ever measure up to the love they have for each other. It's on a whole new level.

I get where Justin was coming from. I understand he needed to do this, because the fury I held inside was fucking insane. The need to kill the fucker that did this to her was all that was in my mind and it was only a matter of time before it all boiled to the surface.

We worked it all out so that Justin had an alibi and if we got caught at all, it would all fall back on me. I know that Jen needs Justin. I know that if I was to be put away for life, that Justin would still make her happy. It wasn't meant to be this way. I shouldn't be sitting here witnessing Jen slip away that little bit more with each passing minute.

A sound comes from the bed, and I sit up a little.

Jens body goes rigid beneath the blankets, her breathing heavy before a pain filled scream echoes from the walls, and suddenly she's thrashing around, screaming for help.

Screaming for Justin.

I don't think my feet even touch the floor when I jump up and kneel on the bed.

"Jen!" I whisper, my hands hovering but not knowing how to wake her without scaring her even more.

"Jen! Come on sweetie, you're just dreaming. Ssshhhh." I gently wipe the hair away from her face where it's matted against her forehead and stuck there with sweat.

"No, please. Please don't. Please. Justinnnnnnnnnnnn!!!" Her panicked cries and screams send chills through my entire body, and I feel a tear roll down my cheek.

"Stop Jen, wake up! Come on sweetie..." I beg.

Her tiny fist comes up and collides with my cheek, but there's no energy behind the blow. I can only pray she at least gave a decent kick to the balls when the maggot was hurting her.

"JEN!"

She doesn't open her eyes, but she curls into a foetal position and rocks herself gently.

I let out a heavy sigh, watching the tears slide down her cheeks in her sleep.

I rub her back soothingly and her clothes stick there with more sweat.

My phone starts vibrating in my pocket, so I walk over to the far corner of the room so I don't wake her.

"Hey bro."

"How's she doing?" Ryan asks.

"Fuck man, she hasn't said a word to me since we got here. She's just been screaming in her sleep too. Must have been a nasty nightmare. She's sweating like fuckin' crazy. She was thrashing around, screaming, crying. I don't know what the fuck to do man." I pull at my hair with my free hand, never taking my eyes off of Jen.
