CHAPTER 18
[ New Orleans, 2011 ]Davina couldn't help but stare in shock at the girl stood before her, glancing between her and Marcel. "You lied to me"
Marcel raised an eyebrow. "Huh?"
"You told me that everyone within these 4 walls had my best interest at heart. You lied." The witch stood, beginning to leave the room but she was stopped by a gentle hand on her shoulder.
"D, if there's anyone who cares about you most in this world - it's Georgia. I trust her with my life and yours. I know stories have been misconstrued-"
"You we're the only person I talked to for 8 months! Every reason I have for not trusting her came from you!" She fumed, pulling herself from Marcels hold.
Georgia stood silently. She had imagined this interaction to go smoother, with Davina running into her arms and begging her to never leave again - in fact it was the last thing Georgia had seen every night before she fell asleep for the last 8 months. But here she was, with her sister repulsed by her presence. "-vina.. we can talk about this."
"Don't do that! You would hand me over to them the first chance you got!"she whipped round, finally looking her sister in the eyes for the first time in what felt like forever.
Georgia scoffed. "If you believe that, you really don't know me Davina. Everything i have done has been for you. Everything"
"Talk to her, D. Hear her side of the story. Please." Marcel sighed, looking between the sisters as Davina slowly retreated back to the bed. He gave Georgia a reassuring nod before exiting the room quietly.
"Oh Davina, you look so differen-"
"Stop. Start talking"
"Wow, solitary has given you an attitude problem, hasn't it?" Georgia rolled her eyes, sitting on the bed and leaving an appropriate gap between them. "I get why you're upset, I stopped texting and coming around but I did that for your safety. If I didn't know where you were then there was no way the witches could know. I wanted to be there Davina but Marcel completely cut me off. I didn't have a choice anymore."
"For my safety? Then why did you align yourself with the witches that want me dead?" Davina stared at her older sister, the girl who had taught her how to braid her hair, instilled her with confidence and who had stood up for her for as long as she could remember. But all Davina could see in her, was the enemy.
"Because, I wanted to be one step ahead of them, of everyone. Plus, we wanted the same thing - You. Now we had different motivations but I just wanted my sister back. I wanted rid of Marcel, yeah but only so you could be a normal girl and not used as a weapon. I don't know how much you know about how Marcel has been running this city but he has power because of you." Georgia sighed, running a hand through her hair "Our mom is dead. You are all I have Davina."
