CHAPTER 51
[ Arkansas, 2012 ]Georgia lay hope down for the night, turning on the nightlight within her room. She straightened out her dress as she stepped out into the hall - she had raised a questioning eyebrow when she first pulled the dress from her bag on the first day she arrived, it was almost as if Klaus had anticipated a use for it when he packed her bags. It now made sense. She made her way downstairs, the most wondrous smell greeting her as she reached the bottom.
"That smells delicious" She smiled, making her way into into the kitchen. Elijah stepped away from the stove, wrapping an arm around her as he kissed her head.
"It's almost ready. Hopes down?" Georgia nodded, looking up into the man's eyes. Elijah stared back at her longingly, brushing her hair behind her ear. "You look absolutely stunning, my love"
Georgia grinned, looking away in order to hide her blushing cheeks. He chuckled softly, hooking his finger under her chin and forcing her to look at him. Her words caught in her throat. "...thank you"
He smiled, pulling away from her and returning to the food. "It shouldn't be long, 5 minutes at most. Would you help me carry this outside?"
"We're sitting outside?" She beamed, lifting the wine glasses from the countertop.
"Of course, I'm hoping to see the meteor shower" he smirked, carrying the remaining extras out to the patio. He held the door open for her, watching intently as she gazed up at the stars.
"What?" Georgia laughed softly, grinning from ear to ear. "I knew you were extravagant 'Lijah but dinner and a meteor shower?"
"There's a chance, it's not guaranteed" he chuckled, placing the wine upon the table. She stumbled into him, distracted by the sky. Elijah laughed, placing a hand upon her hip to steady her. "You act as if you've never seen stars before"
"New Orleans is always so bright, they never look like this. Meteor shower or not" she grinned, setting the glasses down and looking up at him.
"I love the stars, in one thousand years they have on no occasion changed. We used to use them to navigate, to dream sometimes as well" Elijah smiled, tracing patterns upon her hip. He watched her exclusively, ignoring the beautiful sky above them because she was the view he had been wishing for. He pulled the chair out with his free hand, allowing her to sit. "You sit here, I'll only be a minute"
Georgia nodded, toying with the cutlery. She took in a deep breath as he stepped back into the house. She glanced around, hoping to remember this night, this view forever. Fairy lights were strung along the porch and the table was lay perfectly, like it came straight from a high end restaurant. No one had ever made such an effort for her and the fact that it was Elijah that was making this effort, seemed too good to be true. Never in a million years would she have believed that the man who had played push and pull with her for almost a year would be trying, nevermind grafting for her.
The sound of the door opening tore her from her thoughts. Elijah placed two plates upon the table, sitting down. "Thank you so much, this is beautiful"
Elijah smiled widely, nodding. "It's the least I could do. You have done so much for me after all"
"I try" she laughed softly, picking up her fork. The pair sat in a blissful silence for a few minutes, the sound of cutlery scraping across fine china not excruciatingly loud. They were simply at one with their own thoughts. Each of them taking in the moment, each other and considering what kind of beautiful truths they would finally reveal.
Elijah was the first to speak up, clearing his throat. "I know I am not myself-"
"You are Elijah... this is the man that I know. Your mom just brought back things that you had moved past. You're dealing with all of that again, that's difficult but that can't change who you are. You think you're different but you're not. Do you think id be here if you weren't? Do you think klaus would allow you to be around hope? Everyone knows that you're trying your best and that you're the Elijah that we all know" she reached across the table, taking his hand in hers. He stared back at her, forgetting entirely what he had mustered up the courage to say. Her words were beyond comforting, after all, her opinion was the only one that mattered.
