CHAPTER 20
[ New Orleans, 2011 ]

"Where's Rebekah gotten off to?" Klaus looked around the compound, a false concern upon his face.

"It's not Rebekah that I'm concerned about. And how can you be so certain that Davina will come?" Elijah sighed, turning to his brother.

"Oh Elijah, you're no stranger to what it's like to be in the grip of an all-consuming infatuation. She'll come." Klaus smirked, proud at his dig.

Elijah rolled his eyes, glancing up at Tim who was perched upon the rafters and playing his violin against his will. "Are the maudlin theatrics absolutely necessary, Niklaus?"

"Ha! It's a fair point." He too looked towards the teen. "Timothy, play something a little more upbeat, please. That's a good lad."

Marcel entered the compound, determination and worry consuming his features as he joined the pair just as Klaus remarked. "Took you long enough to spread the word."

Elijah chuckled. "Have you met his nightwalkers? Not the brightest assortment."

"All that matters is I got it covered. When Davina gets here, you two need to let me do the talking." Marcel sent them both a harsh glare.

"Well, I'm sure you'll have your chance." The hybrid turned to the new member of the gathering. "Hello, love. Silence is golden, Timothy. Thank you."

As the boy was tore from his daze, his eyes met hers. "Davina?"

"You got me here. Now let him down." She demanded.

"Well, first, we have to have a little chat about you returning to the fold." Klaus smiled coldly, stepping towards her but he was halted by Marcel speaking up.

"What did I say, Klaus? I got this." He sighed stepping infront of the hybrid. "D, what happened? Why'd you run? Talk to me. Hey, I can make it right."

"How, by threatening my friend?" She raised an eyebrow and for a moment, Marcel swore Georgia was stood infront of him - telling him off for something like she had done many times over the last few months. He hadn't realised how much Davina had matured in that time.

"Actually, that was my idea. Apologies. I've been known to go too far to make a point, But I do always get results." Klaus smirked, stepping forward once again.

"You pretend to be so confident, but I know the truth. You're afraid everyone can see what you really are-- an animal." With the twist of her hand, Klaus was brought to his knees, groaning in pain. "A beast. Why don't you show us your real face?"

Klaus' face suddenly transformed, his fangs bearing as his eyes shone yellow. Elijah and Marcel shared worried glances as Davina raised her hand once more. But she was momentarily stopped by a force stronger than magic. Love.
