Chapter 16: Neteyam p.o.v

I smiled to myself as I walk into our hut after my swim with Ao'nung. "What has you smiling?" My mother asks me as she saw entering.
"I am just feeling good." I smile at my mother.
"You look like a young man in love." She walks over to me to rebraid a braid that had fallen lose.
" Mom I can braid my own hair." I complain lightly.
She removes her hands holding them up in surrender with a smile "So come on son, tell me what or who has you smiling like that."
"It's someone I care about a lot."
"Aren't you going to give me a name?" she moves her head to the side.
"Not yet." I tell her.
"But you told you father." She says giving me a knowing look.
"Then you already know mother."
"but I want to hear it from my son." She places a hand on my good shoulder "I want to know from you, who captured your heart."
"It's Ao'nung." I say to her what made her eyes widened as she gave me the biggest smile I've ever seen her wear.
"So why haven't you two told the clan?" she says gesturing for me to sit down.
"Because I wasn't sure if it was okay for two males to be together and I was afraid the backlash ao'nung would get since he is the next Olo'ekytan."
"oh son." She strokes my hair "You do not have to be afraid of that."
"I know." I nod "That's why I talked to dad, I wanted to know if it was frowned upon."
"And he told you that it was okay right? That even clan leaders can be paired with someone they choose to mate with regardless of gender."
"yes." I nod "and he told me we looked good together."
"I think so as well." She takes my hand in hers "I like whoever makes you smile like that."
"I should really talk to Ao'nung and tell him I want to tell the clan and mate with him."
"That is a good idea son, so he is the one you want to mate with, to spend the rest of your life with."
"Yes I do."
"So what is your plan?"
"What do you mean?"
"Well your father and I mated by the tree of voices during nighttime, it was beautiful and intimate." She tells me " at first I was afraid that he would choose another woman but he told me that I am the one he chooses but he said he would only mate me if I choose him as well."
"I might have an idea." I smile
"You do?"
"I will tell you after I executed my plan." I kiss her cheek " I have to go."
"Be careful Neteyam." She tells me "You have just recently recovered."
"I have been through worse." I yell back as I leave the hut and went to find my siblings, Roxto and Tsiyera.
