We talked to Neteyam for a little while together but I noticed him giving me glances as I had not spoken. Afraid that if I talked I would disclose whatever was going on between me and Neteyam to our families. Kiri noticed the glances we were stealing so she decided to speak up "We should let our brother rest for the day."
"But mother wanted one of us to stay with Neteyam in case he needs something." Lo'ak disagrees.
"Ao'nung can stay with him." She quickly answers "We have duties the clan needs us to do, Ao'nung was cleared of his duties because he was shadowing his father with the meeting."
"Shouldn't he be at the meeting they are having now?"
"I wasn't allowed in and mother wanted me to check up on Neteyam." I lie not wanting to leave his side.
"See." Kiri claps her hands "Now everyone go out, he needs rest."
"You are becoming bossy." Lo'ak complains.
"Come one trouble maker." My sister drags the youngest sully boy out of the hut. Tuk and Roxto following them after wishing Neteyam well.
"Make sure he rests." Kiri winks at me before leaving the two of us alone.
I look at Neteyam before taking a deep breath "I was so scared."
"I know." He openes his arms for me "Come here."
I moved over and hugged his torso, placing my head on his chest so I could hear his heart beat. I felt his arms circle around me as he kissed the top of my head "I am here."
"Why did you do that on your own, you should have come and gotten me."
"I wasn't going to lose anyone, I needed to figure out what he was planning to do, so I could warn all of you."
"That is not something you do alone." I pull away from him so I could look him straight in the eye.
"I am a warrior." He states.
"You are also just one person Neteyam." I reply getting angry.
"Why are you getting angry at me? You would have done the same thing if you were in my place."
"Because you have no regard for your own safety" I raise my voice standing up ruffling my hair in frustration " You always put yourself before others, before your siblings, before your parents, before our people."
"Isn't that what I am supposed to do, protect each other, protect the people." Neteyam replies
"and who will protect you when you do something idiotic and plans to play hero every time you can." I argue "You are stupid for acting that way."
"get out." Neteyam suddenly spoke cold and low making me realize I went to far with my words.
"Neteyam, I" I stutter.
"Get out." He looks up with me, his eyes cold and glassy "I won't say it again."
"Fine." I say walking to the exit but I halted in my step to glance back one more time. Neteyam had looked down to his hands and I saw his shoulders shake as a sign he was crying. I groaned knowing I couldn't leave him like that. so I turned around and crouched down next to him. I grabbed his chin so he could look at me "I am sorry, I am the idiot." Then I kissed him. At first Neteyam didn'react and I was afraid I did something stupid but to my relief, he responded by the kiss.
