My fingers run through my hair as I sit back on the metal armchair, looking over the railing of the balcony. There's not much of a view, it's mostly trees and other backyards.
The cold breeze makes me shiver as I reach for my cigarettes. I take one out of the packet before picking up my lighter, covering the cigarette from the wind as I light it.
Inhaling the smoke from the cigarette, I set the lighter down and shut my eyes for a moment, savouring the silence that only lasts a few seconds.
Thoughts begin to flood my mind again making my eyes open, my eyes focusing on the small black table in front of me. Olivia picked this set of table and chairs out. She said it was very me, I agreed, I still do agree with her on that.
Although, I must buy a new set for out here. There's too many memories with this one, memories that I'd rather forget about, memories that make me regret setting my stuff down on the round table.
A laugh escapes me before I slip the cigarette between my lips again, glancing up to the sky now. I breathe out, watching a small cloud of smoke sneak past my lips.
I gently tap the ash off my cigarette into the ashtray before deciding to put it out altogether, no longer wanting to stay outside. I rise from my chair, picking up my things before pulling the balcony door open and stepping inside to my warm bedroom.
As I shut the door and fix the curtains, I hear the doorbell. I can't help but groan before
I walk quickly out of my bedroom and down the stairs. Maggy comes out of the living room, making her way toward me.My hand finds the door handle as I look down at the cat, I nudge her gently with my foot so she doesn't get hit with the door. I slowly pull open the door.
It's Diana. I have to admit, I wasn't expecting her. I was expecting Tatum or Carson or somebody other than Diana. I thought she was angry at me over the whole hugging thing, maybe she has realised how dramatic that was.
"Why are you wearing a skirt?" I ask first, glancing down to the grey skirt that she's wearing. It's winter and it's freezing.
"I thought you would like it." She says quietly and I look back up to her. I don't think she likes it herself.
"I do like it, it's short though." I speak, noticing her shaking slightly. Something is off, not with her outfit, she looks good but just her...something's off with her.
"Can I have one?" She asks as I gently pull her inside so she doesn't freeze, I look to her confused before following her eyes to my hand where I hold my packet of cigarettes.
"One what?" I question to make sure.
"A cigarette."
"Why? You don't smoke, Diana."
"I want to start." She pulls at her skirt, shifting awkwardly. What is wrong with her?
"How come?"
"Can I just have one?" She asks and I open the packet, handing her one. She doesn't smile like she usually does when I give her something.
"I don't like people smoking inside of my house." I tell her as she holds the cigarette between her two fingers.
"But it's an exception when I do it?" She looks up at me, a teasing look in her eye while she smiles, inching slightly closer to me. I light the cigarette while my gaze stays on her.
"Everything's an exception when you do it." I lean even closer to her causing her to fall back a step as I lower my voice.
"Do you know what you are going to say in the application?" I ask her, turning away from her as I smile. I make my way into the living room. I hear her choke a little behind me which makes me roll my eyes.
